Title: Audio/Video Out of Sync
Post by: Guybrush Nosehair on Wed 22/09/2010 03:46:28
I have AVI files that I would like to join together. I ran them both separately through VirtualDub and told it to do full processing mode for the audio as I was getting an error message otherwise. I was then able to merge the two files together, but am now faced with an audio/video sync error. If I view each video separately, the audio and video are in sync. However, when merged, the audio of the second video loses sync.

Can anyone come up with a solution to this problem? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

VirtualDub allows you to offset the audio by milliseconds and you can sync it up correctly through trial and error. This guide should help: http://www.tutorialsroom.com/tutorials/av/vdub_adjust_sync.html

Yeah, I did that shortly after starting this thread. I was able to delay the second video by a half of a second. That way, when I put the videos together, I got perfect timing. I got it on the first guess. Still, there has to be a better solution then this. Something was obviously causing the sync issues. I'd like to be able to figure out what it was so that this won't happen again.

I'd also like to point out that it didn't matter which clip I put first. It was always the one that I'd added second that was out of sync.

Could it be a sample/frame rate issue? If the audio was playing at a slightly different rate to the picture (e.g. 24/25fps) it would seem reasonably in sync to begin with, but become more apparently out of sync as the video went on.

Nah, the out of sync audio was consistent throughout. Also, I checked the fps on both videos and they matched.
