hotmail annoyances

I don't usually use hotmail except as a spam account and for such things as forum registrations and so forth... however, recently it's become too annoying even to use for that. Whenever there's a picture in a message, it doesn't get shown, instead I get a patronizing warning about how pictures may be hazardous to my health. Whenever I click a link in a mail, it doesn't pass through, instead I get a warning how clicking links may blow up my computer.

THIS IS ANNOYING! Is there any way to turn such nonsense off? Because I can't seem to find it among the twenty pages of options and settings.

I second that! Any way?

Cause I actually booked tickets from BA and it won't show me, claiming it's not safe. How annoying! >:

Doesn't it work like Internet Explorer, where a bar will appear warning you about the pictures, and you can click on it to show the pics?

I don't seem to have a problem with attachments, which is the way that pics are sent to me anyway.

As for links, for some reason I have no problems clicking on them. They just open up in a new window as always, with no warnings.

Well, that's why I don't use IE either. I don't want such bars that treat me like an idiot. I have a master's degree in computer science, for crying out loud.

Normally I'd respond to this by saying something along the lines of, "Gmail, duh." But actually Gmail doesn't display images in emails until you click on "Display images". There may be a way to turn that off in Gmail though...I'm not sure...but there might be.

One aspect of Gmail that I do like however is that unlike Hotmail, Gmail has no link masking. If you click a link in a Hotmail email, it's passed through a JavaScript function to either make it load the page with a Hotmail "back to my email" frame at the top...or maybe it just says "Are you sure you want to go away from the awesomeness that is Hotmail by Bill Gates?". The only option is of course "No". But Gmail doesn't do that crap. Which is really ideal for me because I never click on links any more. I drag them into a new Firefox tab. Which doesn't work with Hotmail. Spread the hate. 8)

That's really strange to hear about, Radiant. The only problem I've ever had with hotmail is that from a few random people, messages didn't go through for a short time. Otherwise I've got nothing else.

I think that is turned off if the person sending you something is in your contact list

auriond

I think Buckethead's got it. I'm not getting any of the problems described... I remember the Hotmail link masking well, but it went away years ago for me. I think it's because I read mail from people on my contact list (or safe list).

Radiant

Right, that explains it.

And since this is my junk mail address and I use it for forum registrations, there never will be anyone in my contact list, so I will be treated like an idiot, forever, by the entire system. Thank you bill gates.
