Most of my posts recently have been done in the early hours due to a little bundle of joy keeping as awake.......

Put your computer in the car, and program on AGS while driving around. Then both of you win.  ;D

of course i'm kidding. But you'll probably have to just wait until he's about 1 or 2 before the crying stops.

I know, my sister has three small kids.

At two weeks, it's really hard to guess what might or might not be up. If he were older, I'd bet he was about to start breaking teeth; at this age, it *could* be colic; more likely, he just hasn't adapted to, well, *anything*. There's a good chance you'll just have to wait him out. That being said, there's also a good chance that he'll just mellow out all on his own, given a little time.

To survive the whole thing, one thing you can do is for the both of you to try swapping off sleeping shifts for a little while-- with the use of earplugs, if necessary, and napping during the day, when he goes to sleep.
1. Never make unnecessary noise.
2. Never use unnecessary light.
3. Never expect a rescue.

I love the way you use *these* when you type Elaine...heh...

Yeah, you pretty much have to schedule your life around the little guy for a while. I lucked out, both my kids were really quiet and never cried much...

It gets better...for a while...

heh!

My mum reckons she used to make me shut up by ignoring me....

Once she had checked that there was nothing wrong with me, of course. I had just been fed, had nappy changed etc etc, so she'd go to bed, and when I cried she left me alone. It sounds mean, I know, but apparently it worked a treat for me...

And 18 years later I don't resent her....

they say to do that, but after a point... after some time.  you dont want them to grow too dependent on you to come everytime they cry, but not come enough and they'll feel alone in this world. their future ways of coping with life in general is now in your hand.

good luck.

- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

it's a delicate balance, and if you screw it up, your cute little bubsy is destined to roam the streets late at night bearing various Weapons of Mass Destruction.

no, really - he will....

A thimbleful of flat, warm beer; works like a charm.

My dad used to tell me that when he was stationed in Germany (he was in the Navy), parents used to leave a beer out all day.  Then, at night, they would give their baby a shot (thimble) of the stuff and the kid would sleep 'till morning.

Of course, they then left the kid home alone while they jaunt off to the pub ...

(*note: this was a trend started after WWII in a vain attempt to prevent the re-birth of the Nazi party)

You see?  Beer is ALWAYS the answer!

The joys of being a parent hey, I guess you know that these things happen but you don't consider it until it's upon you.

I don't have the experience but I did look after my niece a few times when she was very young and It got to me after a short while and that's only a few hours (not during the night), I've often wondered how I'll handel it full time when that time comes.

but yeah, the method of not going everytime the baby cries is probably the best one, that's what my sister did, but it really does depend on the personality of the baby as some cry more than others.

have fun, I'm sure it's an experience you'll look back on and have fond memories, if not you can say what a cry baby he was at his 21st

I remember when I was two weeks old.  Man I'm glad those days are over.

Well seriously,  I've heard that the ticking of a clock can sooth a baby to sleep.  You might try that.  I've also heard that if you set the baby on top of the washing machine while it's running, the vibrations help them to go to sleep.

Hey, Foz, you ought to save some of these threads to your hard drive and show them to your boy once het gets older.    :)

He'd be like "whoa did you really give me beer?"

I've never heard of putting a baby on a washing machine, but I'd do it just for the fun of it.

I think putting the baby in the washing machine and turning it on, would solve all your problems.
