Yeah, I've been on vacation in Egypt, which is why I've been away from the forum lately.
This was the first time for me in Africa, so it was pretty exciting.

Day four: Nothing much. I discovered some weird woman-animal statue in the desert. Had some tea on the hotel.

We practised horseback riding in the desert, which was cool since I've never been in contact with horses before, and suddenly I was gallopping across the dunes without any helmets or protection whatsoever. This tells something about the arabian tourist-guides' sense of responsibility.

When I went horseback riding near the Sphinx, my wallet fell out of my pocket becuase the horse was galloping away very fast and bumpy. Our guide sent his boy to pick it up and he took a very long time to bring it back, but bring it back he did. Fortunately, I'd kept my cash in a money belt, but I had my credit card in the wallet for ease of access. It was still there when I got it back.
When I returend home, there was a 363GBP entry on my credit card that I knew nothing about. So I moaned at the card co and they refunded it to me as it was fraudulent. So, check your credit card statement, Andail!

My cousin likes to go there with the motorbike, embarking from Bilbao... I'd really like to go. I want to buy a REAL kilt, not the little one... the 4x2 meters the scottish sheeperds used centuries ago... I'd use it most of the time at home...
I have the lucky chance to enjoy scotlands weather 24/7. Btw Ive been to egypt, Its too hot for my liking the nice cool 5c in scotland is for me ;D

How far from the Sphinx are you? That picture makes it look quite a bit smaller from what I pictured in my head.
Edit: Andail is actually 30 feet tall. It all makes sense now.
Ah, I'd love to see Egypt! And when visiting the Sphinx, I would draw some nonsense picture on it with my yellow crayon!
Great photos, but on my monitor the riders are galloping on something green which looks more like a meadow, not a desert.
Edit: Steppe. Or a prairie. Or savannah. These are the right words for the terrain they're galloping on (on my monitor).
sylpher; funny you should mention it; the sphinx, just like the pyramids and all other monuments you have seen on pictures or in movies or whatever, are much smaller in reality. Unless you realise how long time ago it was these things were created/erected, many of them will appear rather insignificant.
Goldmund; the colours are wrong partly because I used my small digi-cam (and not my 35mm), and it couldn't really handle the bright light contrast of the sky very well. But I assure you it was a desert.
Andail, I have a question: can you acutally touch the sphinx and the pyramids?
The pyramids are very touchable; you can even climb a few steps if you wish. I don't think you can come near the sphinx though.
All the restriction are pretty new; one generation ago, you were allowed to do pretty much everything, and dumb germans and brits probably cut off pieces of the rock to bring home as souvenirs.
I'm not sure about that last thing, but germans and brits often behave like that when travelling.
