Title: baked beans (No, really)
Post by: ManicMatt on Mon 09/01/2006 21:35:02
Today I spotted weight watchers baked beans.

Diet baked beans? DIET BAKED BEANS? It's beans in tomato sauce, how the fudge can you make them have less fat or calories? Do they add sugar in heinz or something?

Oh, upon looking at the tin, and comparing it with Heinz normal beans, there are SEVEN calories more in the Heinz! Wow! Why don't i just lift my remote control four times in the air, thus burning seven calories, and then eat the heinz ones instead of some probably gross diet ones?

Oh no other customer in the shop, you go ahead and spend all that extra cash on 'diet' beans. Sucker.

The sauce they come in can have less calories. And I believe Heinz DO actually add sugar. :P

Could be less sodium also...

It's funny you should mention weight loss -- strangely enough I've had several nice e-mails lately telling me of various ways to "LOSE WEIGHT NOW" and "SHED THOSE POUNDS", which I could share with you if diet baked beans aren't your cup of tea.

Lumpingfish: Remember though, 7 calories difference! That's like almost nothing!

MrColossal: I'm just wary of those weight watcher products. I've looked a some of their other stuff before and they try to make it look less fattening than it is!

Pumaman: Cup of tea? What is it with you and blue cups anyway?  ; :) Man if I shed any more pounds I'll be skinnier than Kate Moss! Okay, maybe I'm going too far with that one..

Lord Nipper: Fire freur! Sadly I had forgot to bring my fire with me, it was in my other trousers.  ;D

That IS pretty insane. Seriously, baked beans are a fabulous food. I'm sure there are some unhealthy versions out there but your standard, run of the mill baked beans are an excellent thing to eat.

God, now I'm depressed X| I can't get them for another 6 and a half months.

I hereby establish the GIVE BEANS TO KINOKO Fund!  AGSers pool their beans into one lump bean sum, and we export beans to Kinoko in nonlethal amounts over the next 6 and a half months.

Don't they have stores that sell foreign food in Japan?
There are some here in Austin, and there was an English store outside Brussels.
That's where I go to get Heinz beans, proper flavoured crisps, digestive biscuits etc.

90% fat free! Why don't they just cut off the 10% that isn't free of fat?

I'm very much in the sticks here, no foreign food stores. There are some in a couple of cities I go to but it's mostly stuff like decent cheese and cadbury's chocolate (not that I complain about that), not baked beans. There's a Foreign Buyers Club online I could get them from but I don't have a credit card and... well, it's a lot of trouble to go to. Heck, I can live without them for a bit longer.

I really just miss being able to go out and buy them easily from my local grocery store. I did recently find some tins of (what I think is) 4 beans mix, so maybe I can pour them into a bowl of tomato sauce and make my own.

Pah, you couldn't afford them after paying 500 yen for bread.

Why don't you just eat 9 out of every 10 beans you serve yourself?
