Title: based on a true story
Post by: Monsieur OUXX on Mon 28/03/2011 09:44:15
So there's this guy who has released a first game. Let's call him "Bob". I didn't play the game so I don't know if it was good, but there was room for graphical improvement. Coincidentally, Bob starts posting pictures for a new game in the critics lounge. So here I am, contacting him and offering to help making the new game look better.

I pretty much tell him I can do anything except for animation. He answers me sending me the sprite he plans on using for the main character, and telling me "please send me back all walkcycles before xxxxx".

I'm like. "Ok, that's not very diplomatic, but eh, maybe it's just a misunderstanding".

So I answer explaining I can't do animations.

Bob almost immediately starts talking about a new new game (out of the blue), and keeps on giving immediate directions even though nothing has been discussed yet.

I tell Bob I'll check out the background of that new game (never heard the name before) and then contact him back.

That was on Friday night.
I don't have the Internet during the week end.
This morning (Monday) I check my email and sees an email from Bob telling me that he knew I was a fraud, and if I was really interested in the project I'd have sent material already. He concluded his mail with "do not contact me again."

FOR THE LULZ.

PS: Not posting this as a "revenge", obviously, as I didn't give the actual name of the guy or the name of his game. Just thought it was a funny story that would make you smile on a Monday morning.

I won't say because that's not the point of this post. (seriously)

Now everyone knows you're talking about me, Ouxxey, because everyone can see in my profile that I have only released a first game with room for graphical improvement so far. That's totally not fair! :-[

I mean, if you can't even do animations and can't stick to my schedules, don't try to work with me, I'm a professional! >:(

Well f*** me, I'm a bad detective, cause I didn't figure it out until you said it. It's always Col Mustard, with the pen, in the mail room. You're like one of those murderers that gives themselves up on the witness stand because a lawyer provoked you...only this was not even provocation.  ::)  ;D

Seriously, in general, even if you know the people you'll cooperate, it's important to be on same page and to understand each other, or in other words - communicate. The basic form of that would be reading what the other person wrote in a message and have some buffer zone where you allow for a chance miscommunications happen.

p.s. We okay Ouxx? Hope you made some progress with my animations this weekend, your animations skills rule.

Whew! I thought he was talking about me. Good to know you weren't. So you're still going to do my animations, Ouxx?

I have to say that I get a few emails now and then for my projects that go nowhere, but nothing quite so hilarious.  Usually it's just, "Hey I can help out in any way, I'm dying to help you do SOMETHING! I can do [insert skill]!!"  Then I reply and say something like "sweet, let's do it!" and then they disappear, never to be heard from again.  Well, until recently someone offered help, and then which might be the first time EVER, actually replied after I did! SHOCKING.

Now, all we need is iceygames to draw a facepalm demotivation like the last time, and this will be complete.

Ha yeah I had a similar experience years ago with someone who was willing to proofread my script, and came back a day later claiming there were over 30 grammatical errors in the first paragraph alone (there weren't), and subsequently requested to have my complete source code so he could correct them. Uhmm... no.

That, on the other hand, I don't understand. I bump into many people who're so scared to give away their source code only for debugging/beta testing purposes. I don't undertsand that. I'd give it to anybody who'd ask, without being frightened of it being "stolen". It's just one guy -- I doubt he'd post it all over the Internet. And I haven't seen so much "precious" code made for AGS yet. And, worst case scenario, the guy would credit you if you nagged him.
Am I too altruistic?

Sorry Duals, your animations aren't done yet. That lazy Ouxxey just won't do them.

Why do you people want to pretend to be me? Is it funny?  >:(

It is clearly Ouxxey's fault. I only assigned him to animate some naughty tentacles. How hard can that be? Even a baby can animate tentacles smoothly. Is he disabled or something?

Oh, shut up, Bobs.
I just can't focus on procrastinating those animations.

Don't revert the edit, but... you were right ;)
