Is there any good free bass tuner software available? I googled this few times, got lots of promising software pieces, but no one of them was actualy good! Some of them didn't capture sound correctly, some of them had bugs...
Any pointers?
Use your ears. Otherwise, I tend to just open Sound Club and tune to that.
I don't know of any specific tuning software, sorry. Perhaps you should broaden your search for guitar tuning as well.

The best way is to tune it to something else -- like a sine wave. It's very easy to hear the beat frequencies then, and it's more accurate than a tuner.
I've used AP Guitar Tuner for a year and haven't looked back. It's THE best free tuner. This is version 3 and I use version 1, but hey, AGS went from DOS to windows in one version.

Edit: I just figured out the change. This is AP Tuner and from version 1 to 2 they went from just guitars to a larger range of instraments.
