Title: BtOpenworld customers - a question
Post by: Archangel (aka SoupDragon) on Tue 17/06/2003 18:38:46
If you use BTOpenworld like me (I use a surftime package), then you'll probably have seen this already:

http://www.btopenworld.com/announcement

Their FAQ is customarily ambiguous about what this " completely new internet experience" actually involves. So I'm wondering; does anyone else actually have any information? It's beginning to sound eerily like AOL, in which case I want out asap. The only good feature I can see is the popup killer - so what, I can just get a free download or use opera. What I don't want is some messed about with, buggy, over shiny version of IE (no jokes about that last statement, please :P ) with some random marketeer's idea of what I want from the internet. My idea of a perfect "suite of services" is a few windows with google open, a copy of half life and msn messenger, none of which requires dumb programs that learn what porn sites I prefer visiting.

And here's another thing. The blurb refers to it being the first service of its kind 'in Europe'. This again implies an AOL clone! What is happening to the world?

"BT Openworld has joined forces with Yahoo!..."

"Intelligent portal - learns your preferences and recommends content"

Eek. Get away from there, quickly! :)

Well that's the thing- if it's just a change of portal then I can live with it (it's not like I use my current portal anyway), but if the changes run deeper than that then I'll be getting worried.

Aw, and I thought the question was going to be "why don't you switch to a competant ISP?"   :P
