Well, hi, guys :)

Me and a friend of mine were discussing lately Indy and his great game adventures...There were a couple of very promising projects, that haven't been updated for 1-2 and more years...Like FoY (Fountain of Youth), CoS (Crown of Solomon) etc...I was wondering if anyone can tell me what happened? Are they completely dumped or there is something still going on behind the scene? ::)

Thanks in advance!

We are not posting much about it, but I can ensure that FoY is moving and has a lot of stuff done...  :)
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

Thanks for the reply. Hope it's true :)
And what about the Crown of Solomon?

There's also a Fate Of Atlantis II that hasn't been updated in ages, afaik.

Fountain of Youth is progressing very well, as Nacho said. But yes, it is all quite secretive I'm afraid :) Did you play Temple of Spheres, the mini-game that Miez just made? See the Completed Games board now!!! :) Our aim is 2011, and if it's not done by then, someone else will be leading the project to make sure it's out the year after :P There was a time where I'd make sure people knew what was going on with FoY (at the AGS boards) almost every week. But that was bad bad BAD and I've learnt just to keep my trap shut til the game is ready ;)

Crown of Solomon is one of the stranger ones, simply because it seemed like Calle, the project leader, had just about finished the game. I'm sure one of the last things he said was that it was 90% complete. Real life got in the way, I'm pretty sure he had a split with his girlfriend. I know for certain that can knock someone's enthusiasm to lead a project for anywhere from a few months to a few years. I'm sure we'll see CoS, it's just a matter of Calle's return and his enthusiasm to finish it off. But as I said, I'm almost positive there is an almost complete CoS on his PC!

FoA II probably need a hundred new team mates. I'll be honest, I'm not holding out for them anymore, simply because they've been sourcing team mates for the past 10 years. I just don't think it's going to happen, not at least before 2020.

A few other smaller Indy projects have cropped up, Curse of the Pharoahs (no website) and Secret of Pandora (http://secretofpandora.org/pandora/game_eng02.html) ... so there is effectively still a lot going on all round :)

I dunno if this is the same Pharaoh one you are one about Mods...

Ahh thanks Stu. Different one though. Guess I should let the others know there's already an online game with Pharoah in the name tho ;)

Inky, hehehe!

Geesh, what a question  :o ;D Maybe 10-20 seconds I've received the email it was on my hard drive running with me jumping like a native American around the ceremonial fire  := Love the small Merry Christmas/Happy New Year demos. That was bothering me. No news about the game, but demos keep coming. Now I see what's going on ;)
btw Sorry to hear about Calle.

Thanks a lot for the encouraging news :P I am very glad to hear that

Any game with Indiana Jones in the title is cursed by default.  It's the Lucas curse!

Blackthorne

I would have loved to have seen the "Raiders" game to its conclusion.

Hell, even the people who actually own the character took a good 10 years to put together a sequel.  And one of those was George Lucas, Mr. Unnecessary and slightly crazy sequel himself.
I also really liked my old signature.

I'm the leader of Juggernaut Games. We were the ones working on Curse of the Pharaohs. Anyway, I'm sorry to say that the project is in fact(for now) dead. However, we are currently working on a create your own adventure for the ipod based on the old text adventure "Indiana Jones in the Revenge of the Ancients." You can check out our forums at Stolovitz.com. It's going to be under the Curse of the Pharaohs section. Thanks for your time.

PS. It's true, the CoS site hasn't been updated in about 2 years, and no new updates have been posted in months. However, if you check out the profile of the project leader, you'll see that he's been active in the past few days. I've been observing this for a while. In other words, CoS is obviously not dead.

2011? What the hell are you making!?

A full length Indy game with a team of less than 10 people, iirc.  ;D

Just 6 of us, you're right Huw :)

It's a long game LGM :P The intro is probably longer (in terms of screens) than the demo :O

As OTT as it sounds someone on the DB mentioned that the demo story gets off to a quick start, well, in the full game the player is eased in little by little (as you'd expect).

Oh, and we heard from the chap who was making Indy and Curse of the Pharoah.

QuoteHey, I'm the project leader of Curse of the Pharaoh. I'm sad to say that it doesn't look like Curse of the Pharaoh is ever going to happen (at least not for now). Anyway, there's not all bad news. I don't know if any one's ever played the game Indiana Jones in the Revenge of the Ancients. We're developing a create your own adventure for the ipod based on this game. For more information, visit the forums of our site. (It's going to be under the Curse of the Pharaoh section).

2020 is a good estimate, but the sourcing team mates problem is old news and is not unique to FOA2. Most early fangames projects suffered the same problem, where many useless people join a team just to see what the team is working on behind the scene or people whose sole contribution to the project is a couple of "brilliant" ideas for the game and the plot but who are otherwise completly useless to the project, or talented people who join a team without having the free time or dedication it takes to work on a project for several years in their free time. In 2005 or whatever year it was when they cleaned their website, a lot of those useless, disappeared and gone team members were removed from the contact page, as of now I think only 4 or 5 persons are working on it.

The latest update I ever heard on the project was sometimes in early 2006, back when the project was still discussed on the AfA public chatroom. Jens was now drawing backgrounds on a regular basis and keeping us updated and for once, the project seemed like it was finally getting off the ground after all these years of "we're busy working on the engine" news reports, then in early 2006 their writers decided to rewrite most of the plot to remove all the bad ideas the plot had collected over the years (see the "too many cooks" bit in the above paragraph), which rendered most of the backgrounds and non-engine related work completly useless. This news was the last I heard on the AfA public channel, we didn't discuss FOA2 much after that. (So you know, I am not a member of the team, I lurk on their public chatroom, they have a private one they use for the project.)

IMO, if there is something that actually prevented that project from making real progress during all these years (other than the facts the students they were a decade ago are now busy with jobs and RL issues), it's most certainly all this energy wasted on this obsession they had to create their own engine rather than use one of the already available adventure game engines out there, and this issue with the plot, where as long there is no outlines and no finalized details, every other aspects of the game must be put on hold.
