Sucks to you for privatising public transport!

But seriously, on the Hunter Valley lines we once had a party with food and party poppers and alcohol [all underage at the time to boot] on the train, and the guards just laughed.

Heck, we had police on once checking tickets as part of a biannual crackdown on fare evasion and we saw bloke drop a bad of weed in front of them. They picked it up and gave it back saying "Don't do that in front of me mate".

I've been told off for having my feet on the seats a couple of times, but never fined! that sucks!
A lot of people I know have been fined for not having a validated metcard, mainly on trams. But most of the time they'd thought they were doing the right thing too.  Bring back the conductors, I say, they were ace.

And whats with the $60ish cost of a concession card? isn't it meant to help people who are low on cash?? It's a bit of plastic for christs sake!

The Officer/Guard must've been really pissed off at that time.. That's a bit harsh.

On the way back from State of Origin 2, 2 years ago, there was a guy jacking off on the train... that was pretty gross, and he didn't even get a fine for that. They just politely asked him to stop (which he didn't), then they left.

So my conclusion is... jacking off on public transport is a-okay, but having your feet on the seat where that guy may have spilt it is out of the question... :P

In Sydney they usually tell you to get your feet off the seat, but I know of people that have been fined for it, I guess it depends on the guards mood at the time. There are signs telling you not to do things, there is even a sign that says "Smoking of any Substance Prohibited" I thought just saying smoking would cover any substance, but I guess some kids smoking bongs must have argued that the sign didn't say they couldn't. It sucks, all you can do on a train now is snort coke & inject heroin, well it passes the time.

As for the lines up in Newcastle, I don't think I ever paid for a ticket and never got caught.

I usually drive places or get a lift anyway.

I saw a woman shoot up on the train once. The guards asked her where she was going and it came out she just wanted to ride the train between Newcastle-Telarah-Dungog all night. She was taken of by someone or other eventually. It was sort of sad.

There was also a fight I saw once, a family feud style thing, and one woman was yelling "You fat fucking bitch", to which her antagonist replied indignantly "I'm not fucking fat! I'M PREGNANT!". That was unrelated and funny, so I thought I'd mention it.

Oi, honestly, you shouldn't have put your feet on that seat, people sit on that,  how would you feel if somebody wiped their shoes on your ass?

About cops not fining people for doing things - well, they're too lazy, they're like reverend lovejoy and crims to them are like Ned Flanders.

Now introducing Femme: The New Pub-Trans Gestapo.

I don't think it is actually clear whether he put his feet on the back of a chair or on the seat itself and unless he just strolled through a mud-puddle he's probably not dirtying up too many asses that way.  Strange thought, that one should worry about dirtying others' asses.   :P

Around here, the trains are so old and crappy that putting your feet on the seats actually makes them cleaner.

Yeah, you can say that again. Most of the trains around here are crappy as hell too.

I think that a 100 dollar fine is too much, but drinking your problems away isn't the solution ;)

In Brisbane, if you put your feet on the seat across from you, the guards just tell you to get your feet off it.

By the way, I just came back from Melbourne -- Loved it!

Isn't there some way to protest the fine? In America you can protest minor violations and get small hearings, lots of times with fee reduction or withdrawal.

$100 is the minimum fine limit, inspectors dont have a say in how big it is

You can fight it, but thats only to get the fine thrown out completly (i think) so you have to prove your inoccent or the inspector hasled/bullied you

What thats an outrage!

I heard of one guy who would get on the bus and talke his shoes off to put his feet on the chair infront... problem solved!
oh but this guy also tried to put his feet under the bottoms of the ladies sitting infront for thrills! ewww!

but the trains round here you have to stand up because all the seats are broken so it may be safer to sit on top of the train than get impaled by your chair.
