I've got Media Player 11. I want to transfer some stuff to an older computer of mine that I plan on using for writing/brainstorming when I need it.
I've learned that in media player you can't drag and drop applications or folders into the burn list. So what I've been doing is changing the file extention to .png. This works perfectly.
But what I'm wondering is, why the hell can't I burn applications and folders like any other burning utility? I need to transfer folders with files in them. I shouldn't have to go through and make notes as to where all these different files go.
I've tried CDBurnerXP, but for some reason my other computer won't recognize the CD.
If any one's got any info on how to change this, thank you in advance,

Media player deals with well, media files and will only burn them. What OS? XP (and onwards?) you can burn cds. Go into my computer, go into the cd drive, copy and paste files, you should the option then to burn them to the cd.
Jup, totally true, and somewhat logical too.
MediaPlayer: Burns media files on CD.
XP: Can burn CDs. And only CD's, even on a DVD recording device.
"Burning" Software: Can usually rip, copy, burn. CD and DVD too.
Personally I never bothered too much since my DVD Drive came with Nero Burning Suite. I daresay the internet has dozens of free alternatives.

Yes, I'm using WinXP. The other computer is a Win98.

Still, even though it is a MEDIA player, if they're going to include the ability to burn CDs they shouldn't restrict it to media files.
Right, Phemar, that's what was pissing me off. Why would they do that? Just to make you but another product by them that allows it? Assnuts ;)
Other than that ability is built into the OS and its a media player.
I don't see what's so wrong about Windows Media Player only burning CDs. Seems quite normal to me.

lol, Nost ;D I was using WMP because everything else I tried, for whatever reason, made the CD unrecognizable on my other computer. So I felt as though I had to.
Terran: I'm sorry, but I must disagree. I just feel that it's a little wonky to restrict you to only media files. Yes, it's Media Player, but... bah. If you're going to create a burning utility, period, you should at least give an option for files that aren't music or video. For the love of Christ, it has the option for DATA CD. DATA isn't restricted to MEDIA files. DATA is DATA and that's all there is to it. A DATA CD to me, is a CD full of your crap that you want to keep, back-up or transfer. Not throw into your CD or DVD player. Hence the name, DATA CD. I know I'm rambling and saying the same thing over and over again, but, why the hell can't you burn applications, folders or ZIPs/RARs? Why would they do that? Yet again, it's rediculous.
The only reason I can think of is that XP/Vista comes with its own burning utility for regular discs, but not music CDs, so WMP fills in that void.

edit: oh yeah Snake, I'd try Deepburner. It's a simple free program that caters to all my burning needs.

Take your average home user consumer who knows enough about computers to power one up and open The Internet. Now if said customer hears they can make their own Media CDs and DVDs to use in their home media player device thing, and they hear said possibility exists with this program called Windows Media Player. What would stop them from burning all the random stuff they can find on a disc and then calling Microsoft that the DVD doesn't play in their DVD player, if not the program used to create the disc?
It's rather logical to me. I see the it being stupid and annoying side of the coin, but I also see this customer-friendly approach to it. And the OS does burning natively anyway.
Also, WMP12 is actually ok. A few hicks but mostly it's rather useful and efficient, in my opinion.
