I have a suggestion...
on these forums, when posting a game for download, i think people should put a rating on it. I saw a post about a game I was downloading and it said "what was that thing that scared the **** out of me?" So obviously I cancelled the download. RATINGS???

What are you on about? There's rating system on official AGS games page... see "Content advisory". There's no rating needed inside forums.

Forums are a bit too messy place for this, and many threads don't really look like something someone wants to release his/her game on. I mean, if you publish a game and hand out links, you'd want either make nice webpage for it or release it on AGS games page, which also looks nice, mature and organized.

If someone asks where to get your game/info and you point him to completed games thread with several "can't download it", "how do I drink tea?", "finished in 2 mins lol", etc -type posts below, it doesn't offer very good impression.

Ratings are for babies and overprotective parents anyway.  ;)

I don't see any harm in an author (if he/she so wishes) putting a line about content that they feel might only be appropriate for "mature" players in a CGA post (sex, violence, "obscene" language, etc)

Preferably, imo, a post in the CGA thread should provide a link to the games entry in the database, where ratings and such are clearly visible, rather than a direct download link.

The ability to rate content in the database is there for a reason, and would help in avoiding any misunderstandings about the nature of certain games.

Of course, if the game is featured on another website that doesn't have such a feature, I suppose it's down to the preference of the games author whether or not to make such warnings clear.

But rating a game because it's "scary" isn't a requirement, and seeing as only a "Horror" or ghost-type game would strive to be overtly scary, it should be fairly apparent to a prospective player what the game contains.

Mster24: That's an interesting use of "obviously"... ;)

And what if someone like me comes along who couldn't care less about rating their games. I probably couldn't do it even if I wanted to.
So do I rate everything as "might be offensive" to be on the safe side  ???
Wonder if the rating panel will take care of this too for the unrated games in the database.
I'm just a bastard who doesn't understand the fragile minded  :-\

If I'm reading you right, and I'm not 100% sure that I am... Just play rated games then? If you're that worried about it, don't play the "unsafe" unrated games.

However, they're just AGS games, not really many that are so offensive children would cry looking at them.

It's just a silly Mittens game. actually, I'm not so sure its a "game"... And since you're new to the forums, I'd surmise that you don't know Grundy, so the finale wouldn't be all that stupendous.

- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.
