Alias (What a loaser) won the last Caption Contest.
But, he didn't start a new one for over a month... AND he doesn't accept my personal messages.
What should we do? :-\
You can actually PM the mods of the compertition forum. But since I had read this message now, you don't need to.
I think to compensate this, i may start a new one within this week.
Bear in mind that this activity was not very popular recently (that's why it's not even listed in the Hall of Fame thread), I think we can judge on the outcome of this new round and decide whether this activity should stay or out.
I hope it stays :(
We could finish this silly competition ^_^
Aw, I loved that comp! Love reading what these creative folks come up with!
I hope that "isolated frame/entire sequence" discussion didn't sour the comp. It's meant to be fun, 's all.
The problem is that I don't see any connection with the game creativity process. Photoshop is image editing. BG blitz, well, it's BG blitz. Animating, sprite jam...
But putting words into 4 unlinked pics? Maybe dialog composition, where an scenario (place, characters...) is given and the best one wins could be cool, but Caption Contest has never made me learn something now, or laugh. Not helpful or funny. But maybe it's me the only one with that problem, so, I just avoid that thread, and everybody happy.
Yeah, guess it's a matter of opinion. I found it very funny, often, and when they started linking the random images together is when it became funniest.
Granted, the last couple of comps were... unspectacular at best. But it happens, I reck. WOuld be sad to see it go because of that, tho'.
Well, when I'm ready to start the new round I'll try reinforcing the rules, hopefully it would be better, but if the result is still not as good I'll simply let it go.
Honestly, I thought that the caption competition had a lot of potential to be funny, but I wasn't particularly fond with the 'four completely unrelated images' thing. It made it extremely difficult to come up with anything really entertaining, as it was mostly attempting to find some sort of method of tying the images together. My favorite Caption Competition to date was an image from BASS (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=18409.msg224065#msg224065). I think that it has much more potential for creativity when you aren't forced to make connections like you need to the other way.
As far as the relevance of the contest is concerned, I figure that it's a method of showcasing the ability to create entertaining dialogue, or make sense of visual situations.
