Title: Cars
Post by: Domino on Sun 14/09/2003 23:18:06
i am always curious what kind of cars people drive. I would like to know what AGS users cars are. If you own a car, tell me what it is. I have a 1997 Chevy Lumina with 104,000 miles.

haha, my car sucks. not as much as CJ's maybe, it not very good.

I own a robin's egg blue oldsmoblie cutlass supreme, 1985. That car was made before I was. My older sister didnt take it with her when she went to uni, so I got it. Its ugly, its old, it smells, but it runs.

Its just as well. I dont "techniacally" even have my drivers licence yet. soon though...soon.

I drive a massive 1993 ford Aerostar, which I'll get rid of pretty soon in order to get a car more... college-y.

If you don't know what a ford aerostar looks like, mine looks like this one:

My first car was a '84 Mazda 323, red (goes faster) I got that in '94 and it died in '98 in the middle of the express way between Sydney and Newcastle.

I just recently sold my precious '74 Toyota Corolla, poo brown, still original (pretty good for a 29 year old car) it was sad to see it go, but It started to get a bit of rust and I didn't think it would pass it's rego in September. Damn it I can't find a photo of it. It had done 180,000km (which isn't much in that time) It was my second car, I got it in '98.

I bought an '89 Daihatsu Charade, which is a small car, it's silver, gets from A to B, economical and reliable. I just put in some new speakers and amplifier. Makes driving around much more pleasurable. I love driving, and would love to be able to just drop everything and Drive to North Queensland.

I don't know how I'd handle not having a car.

I was driving a '99 Chrysler Sebring but it was my ex-wife's and she stopped making payments and got the thing re-possessed.  Now, humbly driving an '88 toyota Celica Turbo-all wheel drive.. black.  I also have an '86 Fiero I wouldn't mind fixing up (needs clutch work).

Well, I HAD a dark red 1989 Pontiac Grand Am LE with over 170,000 miles on it...  I loved that car... but then I hit a deer with it...

Now, I drive a grey 1989 Pontiac 6000 LE with about 70,000 miles on it... and I hate that car and wish I could hit a deer with it.

My stepdad has a black 1968 Charger sitting in our barn... it could use some body work and some re-upholstering, but I'd love to have that car... even if it only gets about 10 miles to the gallon... either that or a GTO Judge.

If you're asking that with my post in mind... this is the farm country of Wisconsin, everybody has about 17 cars or trucks sitting in their yard, whether they work or not.  Automobiles are dirt cheap out here, you'll always find someone selling a beater for about $100 because it's got something wrong with it or it has too many miles on it.

The same goes for South Dakota, you can get a car for 100 bucks easy.  My brother-in-law is the king of cars that don't work...likes to acquire them for some reason.  No, he's not a mechanic(yah he claims to be but just isn't) and doesn't fix them up.  Everyone thinks my Thunderbird is the bestest car in the whole world cuz it was made in the 90's(what a treat!).  LOL.  ^^ And everyday I look at it and go...ugh...I need a newer car.

How's this for a Zen moment: If a bird craps on a car but there's no-one around to see it, is the car really soiled at all?

Oh, also, what do you guys in the metric world call the mileometer? surely it's not a kilometermeter?

Title: Re: Cars
Post by: Las Naranjas on Sat 27/09/2003 23:26:15
Odometer.

At points along the F3 there's signs saying "Odometer test, 500 metres", so you can test whether it's measuring what the RTA calls 5 km as 5km.

And when you're on a road that safe and ergo boring, you tend to test it.
Title: Re: Cars
Post by: Moresco on Mon 29/09/2003 16:24:03
Ah well, if the bird craps on the car and nobody is there to see it....you still see it later when you arrive. The car is still soiled.  And what's worse, it's sitting there embracing crap whilest you diddle your wife.  Shame.

If it didn't cost 25K, I might've been able to pick up a hybrid.  I would've preferred it for its more environmentally-friendly fuel consumption (as well as less of a dent in my budget gas-wise) but couldn't afford one.  Pure electric is terribly impractical still.  As for Summernats... I figured you for more of an environmentalist, Las.  Any car shown there would suck down $150-$200 in petrol per month, I'm sure.

Yay...

Cars...

I have a 1994 Saturn SL1. Here it is:
That's my parent's 2000 Honda Accord EX behind it.

My car is ok. It's my first. The hood has dents because of the previous owner, but the rest of the exterior is nice. The interior is ok, but kind of dirty here and there and the material from the roof was torn off. I paid $1,000 with money I made from work, and my dad paid the other $750 plus $300 or so for a new AC radiator and tires. It has 70K miles now. It was in the high end of 69K when I got it.

It has hardly any shocks left, so every little thing makes it bounce. It has a really annoying squeaky piece on the dashboard toward the passenger side that vibrates when I drive down bad roads.

I'll only have it for another 6 months or so. After that, we'll move away from Hawaii and I won't feel like paying the $800 or whatever to ship it.
Then I'm going to get a 1990 Mustang.

This is my car:

It's a Chevy Lumina, it has crank-down windows, seats that only move as a whole forward or backwards, a cassette playing stereo, and a steering wheel cover that cost more than the car itself.Ã,  Inside the car you will find a bunch of wires connecting my portable CD/MP3 player to the stereo.Ã,  It is one of my most prized possessions - I only payed $50 for it.Ã,  I bought it from this poor old woman whose son had given it to her but suddenly didn't run anymore.Ã,  Instead of having it fixed, she just up and put it on sale.Ã,  I was happening to drive by when I saw it.Ã,  When I confronted her and asked her to quote a price for it, she told me $50.Ã,  Without a moments hesitation, I bought it and dragged it off to my house with my truck.Ã,  Turns out, it just needed a new battery and she somehow wasn't able to figure that out.

Post a picture of your car, van or truck if you can and tell me all about it.
