Yay! The new Bond movie is out, and I went to the world premiere yesterday! Free champagne, as much as we wanted :D
The movie, I must say are very different from most other Bond movies, in a good way. Much more focus on the story, etc.
Many critics have complained about the new actor, and how he is too "soft" and such. I myself actually think he did a great job.

Anyone else saw it? What are your thoughts on it?

m0ds

I haven't yet seen it, but I have been told by my friend who saw it last night that like you say, it's very different, but very good. Can't wait to watch! :D

ildu

Well, it better be different since the new ones have all sucked, except for Golden Eye. The last one was the ultimate worst Bond flick ever. But Casino Royale is an original Ian Fleming for a change, so it should be a whole lot better, even by default.

It might be good, but the new Bond is so ugly, why did they choose him. There's not even any continuity in the Bond films, they've had like 8 different guys playing as him. Why not get Sean Connery to do them all, then it would be waayyyy better.
I'm composing the music for this game:

Thats because people age, and Bond don't.

And the new guy are doing a very good job. I too was very sceptic, but he really surprised me.

Wow... That' s a point.

Anyway, kids commentaries aside, I have a lot of confidence in this new movie. I agree that the two last Bond movies sucked hard (An ice palace? A plane falling/destructing for 15 minutes?  :P) And this one seems less "Triple X" and more Flemingish. The new actor also looks more Bond to me than Brosnan.

Let' s hope it' ll be good.
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

I think Daniel Craig looks like a fantactic Bond but I won't comment further until I have seen it.

As for the whole "different actors" thing, I once read a theory that keeps the continuity that I quite liked. Basically it implied that the name "James Bond" was used every time they promote any agent to 007, that is to say, once Sean Connery's "character" died, then another guy (George Lazenby) came in and assumed his position. The name "James Bond" in itself is just that - a name given by the government.

It's a bit silly to go into much detail about it I suppose, but if it keeps the obsessives happy then it's for the best.

What might support this theory, are the beginning of this movie. But I wont spoil what actually happends...

And yay :D Everyone in the cinema got a casino royale chip. I think it's the official weight etc. It's a good souvenir anyway :)

I haven't seen the film yet, having seen clips of it I have mixed feeling of what I've seen. But I'll reserve my judgment until I've seen it. They should just CGI a young Sean Connery into the film as the Sean Connery ones are the only decent ones, though I do like the two Dalton movies and Goldeneye. Having read a few of the Bond books I have to say Dalton makes the closest bond. Though the closest thing to the book doesn't necessarily make the best Bond film, it's various factors. Daniel Craig wouldn't be my first choice to play bond, he doesn't seem very bondy to me. Though I suppose it has to be better than ohmss.
Or you could just watch Taxi Driver, now thats a good film.

But now we'll have to use extra words to distinguish between this movie and that spoof that they made way back when! I don't want to have to say "the comedic Casino Royale" and "the serious Casino Royale." GrrrRrrajklreraeworho ;af!!!  >:( >:( :P ;D

Seriously, why did it take them so long to make an official movie with the first James Bond book's title?

Also, Sean Connery starred in one official James Bond film after George Lazenby had his film.

For those who have already seen it:

Why did she kill herself at the end? In fact, why didn't she just tell bond she'd made a deal with the bad guys before handing over the money?

Yeah, Bond is supposed to be timeless. If it wasn't then they've completely messed up because why is there a new Aston Martin in Casino Royale?? It's all because it's timeless :)

Well, I agree that The World Is Not Enough is lame, but Die Another Day was a phat action movie. I saw it 4 times in the cinema. With the right sound levels it made a great experience. Plus a bunch of the locations were near where I live, but I guess that's more of a personal reason to like it.

Mr Jake

Is there as much Sony product placement as there seems to be in the advert?

Tuomas

Dunno, I liked the new ones too. Guess it's because of the beautiful girls. Heh, yeah, I'm going to see this too, at least the girl is pretty. Though what annoys me most is the Ford mondeo... don't ask.

Someone needs to get Moonraker out on video.

jaz

I worked pretty close to where the movie was  being shot in Prague and I must say it was quite annoyng as I was twice late at pub because of roadblocks. So where was I... Oh, yes, the flick should better be good considering the abovementioned fact! Incidentaly I have two free cinema tickets so the question is: James Bond or Borat? Any suggestions? :-)

vict0r

James Borat?    ;D

Actually.. I don't know! I just saw Borat today, and I doubt I ever laughed this much of a movie before. Then again, I find this bond movie a small revolution amongst the newer Bond movies.

Pay for one, get the other one for free?

Pfah, up until the scenes in Venice, Moonraker is actually one of the better Bond-movies. After that, however, we get motor-driven gondolas, a more tragic than threatening Jaws(which he actually was in the beginning of The Spy Who Loved Me) and go up into space, fighting with rayguns. However, Michael Lonsdale as Hugo Drax is still one of the best Bond-villains, and definately one of the chilliest.

And I have to say that Casino Royale looks like it might be really, really good. Looking forward to seeing it.

Well, telling him outright wouldn't support his character arch of being who he is: Bond. James Bond. And I believe she let herself drown because she wasn't really a bad person, and I doubt a woman who was obviously battling inner emotions already, wanted to live with guilt of betrayal on top of that. Plus, we needed a reason to get Bond back into action and to clear the way for another woman. You didn't think that would be the end of it, did you?

But that doesn't explain her character's motivation, but rather the scriptwriter's motivation
