what would be a fair award for the first and second place games, if i were to ask for specific games?
i would like to see an adventure game based on 'swallows and amazons', by ransome, or an adventure based on the goonies film.
i would allow the game writers to hold all rights for publication.
i just want a game i can play, and pass on the my grandkids, and isn't violent.
i hang my head in shame, i just can't make this myself...but since my heart attack, i just don't learn very fast.
i hope this isn't the wrong place to post, i couldn't find a link to the moderator.
i am talking cash as an award by the way.
thank you....

This is obviously not fit in the competition & actyivities forum (only approved activities please). Furthermore, I think I can't get what you're going to say, maybe want to start a competition on games with specific themes? We have the MAGS already.

A bit more elaboration might be needed regarding what you're asking.

As far as "The Goonies" video games go, there has been a couple of Goonies game already made by Nintendo (though they are rather old, they don't seem to be "Adventure Games" if that's what you were looking for, and perhaps they don't look particularily imaginative/interesting in game-play perhaps -- i.e. Jump over the Rats or Die, but still for the time-era they were made and the type of games they are, still might be a bit fun). You can see more about them at the following links:
http://www.thegoonies.com/old1/games.htm

If you're looking for non-violent freeware Adventure games in general, then I suggest starting off with the AGS games home page:
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php

There are several categories to go through, Short, Medium, Full-Length game, etc... and each game has a "Rating" along with it to indicate the amount of violence if any, just look for the little icon with the game's information.

Ã,  Ã, Also if you're looking specifically to have people make adventure games based on already established books / movies, then you get into the "copyrighted works" and "infringement of intellectual properties", etc.. type of problems, and which possible some of these big-wig lawyer type of dudes can come along and screem "Stop it, or Else!", and also, a lot of Amateur or Independent Adventure Game makers may not be interested in making games based on an already existing book / movie.

Still, if you're just looking for an Adventure game perhaps, that is maybe similar in concept/story to something like "The Goonies" movie, but, not exactly a "rip-off", giving the game-maker room to make his own unique story and characters, some people might be more willing to take up such a challenge I think.Ã,  But then again, a lot of game-makers around here already have their hands full with other projects on the go too.Ã,

But like I said, if you elaborate a bit more on your ideas, then maybe it's possible some people may be interested.

Best regards.

Mongol General: "That is good."

i am looking for someone to create an daventure game, based on the 'swallows and amazons' or on the 'goonies' movie.
not a side scroll run n jump game, but an adventure where one has to do certain actions to procede.
if it is considered, yes i would sponsor a competition, in as much as the moderator allows...i have visited ags a lot, have d/l d some games and played them.
i am trying to have something created that i can not do...i truly wish i could do it myself.

Feel free to announce your competition here, and maintain it on a personal webpage, where you can elect winners and donate money to your heart's delight.
We can't officially implement a competition based on your personal preferences, be it financially funded or not.

If you can't take care of such a website yourself, you might also advertise for a webmaster.

The general way to go about this sort of thing, I think, is to find individuals you want and ask them directly.

You're essentially talking about seting up a team here. It may only be for one project, but that's what it is. Think of yourself as the head of a company here - a company that will exist for only the length of one project (perhaps).

So, whereas others look for perhaps one or two members to form a team, for example a writer, a background artist, an animator... you want the lot.

At a guess, I figure you'll be needing a scripter/coder/programmer, a script writer, someone for music and sound, an artist (either one only or background + sprite + animator) and you'll need someone to tie the lot together, a team leader. Someone who actually comes up with the skeleton of the game and puts it all together, then giving the rest specific info of what they need to do.

If you have no confidence in your ability to do any of these things, you're gonna need to find other people to do them, which means either advertising for the specific jobs and waiting for offers, or looking at the work of people in the community and directly approaching them with your offer/request. I recommend the latter, personally.

Of course, you may be lucky enough to find someone willing to do the whole lot by themselves, in which case you're really lucky ^_^

Wretched

I think most people here write adventures as a way to express themselves, since %99 of the adventures are freeware, the motivation is purely for the love of the game. Even a moderate game takes 100s of hours of work, to expect someone to write a game for you, unless they happen to be similarly motivated, is a huge undertaking. Even at a minimum wage you are already talking 1000s of dollars!
Swallows and Amazons would, I agree, make a good basis for a game, I've read the book and recently heard it on the radio twice. If it is for your grandchildren I would suggest changing the main charactors to your grandchildren, to avoid copyright issues and thus making the game more appealing to them.
In reality any award would have to be based on how much time you expect people to put into the game.

Also very true. You'd have to be willing to part with a decent amount of mney, or find some very, very dedicated people who are willing to work for less (which is unlikely since it's your idea).

I encourage you to give it a try and see though :) You've already drummed up some advertising with this thread alone.
