I'm not sure what to say of the case of Charles Manson. Is he innocent or not, I'll leave that to those that can judge better than me. But the stuff he has said over the years makes you wonder if he's batshit crazy or speaking some sort of sense.
Wasn't that shotgun still warm when they caught him?... ;) Manson might be many things, but innocent- he's not. He might as well stay in prison anyway. He's 77. If he was paying any attention watching the Shawshank Redemption, he'd remember that chap who got released but commited suicide shortly after, unable to fit in into real life outside prison...
He'd also know that playing chess while in prison is a good idea!

I think it's mostly "batshit crazy" with a wee little bit of "some sort of sense" mixed in just to keep everyone wondering. In a prior parole hearing he said he didn't have time to be paroled as he was busy with other stuff.
