I just made a forum with cool stuff. You can talk about ags or adventure games and also freeware, websites, etc. ;D
come join and the community will thrive. :)
What's wrong with this forum? You can do all those things here? Why on EARTH would you try to entice people away from this already established forum to another forum no better (and possibly worse because it has no members)?
Honestly, why make something when there's no market for it? I'm bewildered.
You cannot have a forum unless you make a forum.
i agree this forum is great, but what if you want to talk about something other than ags and
you cant find a place, then post it on my forum. 8) and that is that

...What?
Anyway, I was just implying that you can talk about anything here, think about the very forum you're posting this in - General Discussion.
i dont know i was trying to be philosophical.
It just feels good to control your own little world and you cant have your own little world without your own little people.
Go ahead and make your own forum. :P
Here's a hint: If you want people to go to your forum, shouldn't you provide a link so they know where to join?
That, and guess what? There IS a place to ask non-AGS questions. RIGHT HERE! WOW.

Coolest website ever.
Can't find that totally happenin' forum though. I guess I'm just not happenin' enough.
Why should we go to another forum when we can do things here and it is more... populated.
C'mon guys... EEP offers us the possibility to go to another forum, he's not the first doing it, don't over react.
If you don't wanna join, don't do it, or don't reply, that'll be enough disencouraging. :P
Aye. People set up their own forums all the time. In fact, many AGSers have their own forums. Gaspop Software (Pleugherburg) have their own. So does Tierra (KQ 1 + 2 remakes). Besides, it's good to visit other forums than AGS.

Sorry, I just don't think that applies here. There's nothing at his site that screams, "Discuss me!"
There are other forums besides AGS?
-MillsJROSS
If that's your opinion, then you don't have to join or visit there, shbaz.

Which begs the question, how exactly does one visit there anyway? There's still no link and it really isn't on the front page of his website..
What difference does it make to you? You just said that there's nothing at his site that screams, "Discuss me!" So why would you need a link?
Come on guys break it up...no need to fight

Yeah, so does my group, Infamous Adventures. We're making Quest For Infamy and another AGS game that remain anonymous at the moment. We have our own website and forums.

If you want to, check it out. Not too much going on - well not compared to here, but if you're interested in Quest For Infamy, come post.

As a general rule, no, it's not outrageous to advertise for your forum here.
But too often, it's rather obvious that the person in question really hasn't any particular theme or idea behind their forum, they just want to have a forum of their own, which they can administer, because it seems cool.
A forum is something that grows around a concept, a community or some sort of theme, just like this forum was created around AGS. CJ didn't have to run around and try to convince other people to join it.
As I've said before, you need to ask yourself the question "would I join my own forum, if I didn't already own it?"
I say that he should atleast post the link so we can check it out
Man I'm dumb! i must have fallen asleep while writing, it is right here.

404...
i fixed it!
The look is... confusing, atleast to me...
Andail - EXACTLY my point. I wasn't trying to say that other forums shouldn't be advertised, or that we shouldn't go to other forums, just that there was very little (if any) motivation to go to his when the only 'theme' seemed to be AGS - and we have this forum for that.
What people miss is that his forum isn't just AGS themed discussion.
The forum is, as he states in the headline: "To talk about really dumb things, and the stuff that is cool. (man, that sounded dumb.)" Nowhere in that purpose did I see the word 'AGS'.
Likewise, with categories like "Poop on a stick" -- Not strictly about AGS discussion.
I don't see why people are quick to condemn him.
Granted:
1) His forum isn't the greatest or most insightful forum in the world
2) I'm not going to be a frequent visitor to his forum and I doubt many people will join.
But if he wants to make a forum without any specific purpose, that's really his business. Some people just want to do these things so they've got something to do in their spare time. And hey, it might attract one or two people to his forum, but it's not like he's stealing AGS members. People have a choice as to what forums they go to, and this is just one of a million choices.
I believe in constructive criticism. And I don't think anyone has given proper constructive criticism because the link for the forum was only just posted a short time ago. A lot of people here have ripped apart the forum before they even saw it.
Perhaps, instead of immediately saying "Your forum has no purpose" or "Why go there when the AGS forum already caters?", it might be an idea to actually view the forum first. Then, perhaps give your impression of his forum. Maybe advice to make it better?
And I don't see what he's done wrong here. He isn't being annoying. He hasn't broken any rules. The only one he's boardering on is rule number 7: "No spam or ads -- They will be deleted." However, it's at a moderator's discretion as to whether this post is locked or deleted (And besides, that rule was more set-up to stop non-members from spamming us with product ads).
This is just my opinion. I'm not trying to defend his forum (because I think it needs A LOT of work) nor am I trying to start a debate. But I do feel some people have gone a little overboard in judging his forum without actually seeing it first.
Actually, I think that making forums that are... pointless - is pointless thing to do.
If you can make a homepage, and a cool one, which has high visitor count, a "shoutbox" where people could leave few lines about what they like or not or anything else like that, would beÃ, enough to get some feedback.
Homepage with high visitor count means usually a place where people could get something, such as humor, comics, jokes, tutorials, help, porn, software, etc. so you have to offer visitors something first to make them want to visit.
Page must be updated frequently too, otherwise visitors just suck it dry of what they need and never come back.
Making and managing a forum is a big operation and without proper community, it's just a waste of time.
I hope this was constructive enough and not too negative.
Amen.
Cewl forum! I happen to be the kind of person that loves to talk about subjects in the like of 'poop on a stick'. ;D
DG, it's nice that you defend the little man, but in my opinion, this case hasn't deserved your fine advocating.
"Forum where moderators can talk about how stupid everyone else is."
A clear-cut example of some underdog-complex
I thank you all for the criticism because without it i could never improve my forum.
I do not mind if you do not join but please consider it ,thanks. :D
