I got really excited, and downloaded all three classic Command and Conquer games (http://www.commandandconquer.com/classic). Now none of them work. I have Windows Vista. Am I out of luck?

GreenBoy

Nope I've got a vista machine and at the very least command & conquer: Tiberium dawn works.  I did have to use a patch but it tells you where to get them from a link on the page where you can download them.

My friend bought the C&C trilogy pack, and no one worked on his vista  ;D

Because of this and many other points, i love my XP!!!

I have yet to have a single problem with something not running in vista. All C&C games have booted and played without any issues.

Tuomas

That's just because you mistake your XP for vista foo

Edit: I've found pacthes for both C&C 1 and Red Alert. I still can't get C&C 2 to work though. Anybody know about a patch for it?

I have C&C: First Decade (all C&C/Red Alert games to Generals: Zero Hour) and every single game works on Windows 7...  I guess older releases are incompatible.
Check official website(s) maybe?

Point of my post is -- the must be patches for every game.

Al_Ninio

Have you tried running them in compatibility mode?
I've installed Red Alert on my netbook, applied the patch and it still refused to work until I put it in compatibility mode for Win 95.
Now it works like a charm!

I have put compatibility modes on all three games, none of which helped until I loaded the patches. I just don't have a patch for Tiberian Sun. It's supposed to run right out of the RAR, but when I try to play it, it says that there are one or more DLLs missing or corrupted.

dont run it out of rar  put it in a folder on your desktop :)

Okay, sorry, but I just have to comment here: just how stupid do you think I am?  :-\ First off, I did unload it; can you even run programs from their compressed files? Second, I'm not gonna put it on my desktop: my computer boots up too slow already. Don't need a 2 gig game slowing it down even more.
;D Okay, I'm good now.  :'( now will some please get me a Vista patch? I like CnC (especailly free).

HAHAHAHAHA

No, srsly,
* you CAN run things things from archive. It automatically extracts them to temporary directory and runs
* Computer speed is not related to what's on your desktop
* Game size is not related to boot speed
* Vista patches you can a) google and find this question asked b) check official website
