Hi again folks, another music thread here.
Lately I've been listening to music a lot and I found out I need to find something new, I'm pretty fed up with what I have here.
So, I'm going to ask you kind people for recommendations.
I'm particulary (is that spelled right?) interested in retro computer music, especially C64 (SID) and Amiga. The only difficulty with that seems to be that there are very few "commercial" bands/musicians in this field. Of course, I could go on modarchive.org and search for Amiga MODs. I did that already, but that's not what I'm looking for.
Things I'm looking for are musicians like Chris Huelsbeck and bands like Welle:Erdball (if anyone knows them). Simply C64 and Amiga music.
Does anyone here know of any artists like that? I would be glad if anyone could recommend me any artist in this field he/she finds good.
Also, feel free to discuss the retro computer music here if you like.

Well, I'm not sure he's that tracker based anymore but if you want some good ambient music you could check out Xerxes (Klaus Lunde) at http://www.xerxes-music.com/ he also has some contributions at www.cardamar.com under Mixes.
I know that isn't exactly what you're after but it's some really nice free music.
I personally have a taste for chip music when it comes to retro (people like 4mat, vim!, h0llywood, zabutom etc), and the old 4chan.mod.
I don't listen to SID music as much but if you want a whole load of it in one easy package then check out the High Voltage Sid Collection http://www.hvsc.c64.org/
Again it's all free stuff and I'm not sure about any commercial musicians that do this, but hopefully Inkoddi (himself an awesome retro musician :D) might reply to you as he seems to know a lot more about that stuff (I've been out of the "scene" for a long time now).

One of my personal favourites when it comes to bitpop/chip-related music is without a doubt Covox. More Gameboy-related than C64, but great tunes none the less, and simply awesome live.

Ah, great to hear that you liked it. :) And as I said, if you do get the chance to catch him perform live, do so. You have no idea how entertaining a tall, blonde geek dancing away behind a gameboy can be until you witness it in real life.

I don't think he's quite as good as Covox, but the style is similar, and he's also pretty awesome live as well.
Huelsbeck is about the most impossibly overrated musician from the scene, honestly. While there's no denying his technical prowess, his tunes have a habit of all sounding alike, and by alike I mean they all sound pretty much like riffs on Turrican.
I'm not at all sure why you'd want commercial music, anyway, when the independent scene has been cranking out some of the most original and beautiful chiptunes and mods for over 15 years.

You have a point there, ProgZ. I know that nothing sounds like things from the scene, but I was just wondering if there are more commercial artists, 'cause I know really only few. I don't have nothing against the scene music, I love it. I just thought if there are some commercial artists as well.
And I can't really judge Huelsbeck, I just know that I love the Turrican music, but I have to agree that everything else is pretty much the same, and, even while Turrican 1 & 2 soundtracks are great, the 3rd one kind of sucks.
If your into metal check out the band Machinae Supremacy, they have a musician dedicated to a SID Box. And the chip his heavily used in all their music.

You could try Timbaland, apparently he loves SID music to death.
Or is it the Finnish producer Janne Suni he ripped off?
Either way SID sounds are back in style for a while at least, if you can find a producer with an Elektron SidStation you may be in luck. The SidStation is based on the same sound processor used in the C64 and is much more authentic than any emulation.
If you just want to hear a tune with SID music in it, google Timbaland Ripoff Suni and you'll find it.

alex - I am not new to the demoscene and know about Timbaland ripping stuff. I also know about SidStation, HyperSID, HardSID and similar new clones. But what I'm looking for is not a tune with SID music in it, I'm looking for rea (as much professional as it gets), actual SID music.

I don't think you're going to find much commercial pure and raw C64 style music, quite frankly.
I can suggest a band or two that use commodore style sounds in their music sometimes, like Late of the pier's song "fokker" (I think)
It's not really c64 music, but the minibosses do rock video game remixes. Since they're a local band I went to see them once, but people were too obnoxious there and I couldn't really hear anything.
