Title: Competition idea.
Post by: DanClarke on Wed 09/11/2005 19:29:34
I was thinking it might be cool to have a competition where the entrants are given a background from an adventure game, a series of characters and other sprites, and have to come up with the funniest 'scenario'. Imagine those stickerbooks where there was a scene and you could stick things like people and items on them and youll get what i mean.

an example would be:

BG: The bar on scabb island.

Characters: Guybrush, lechuck, Largo and Stan

Items: Banana, bloody mary, monkey, manilla envelope.

Captions could also play a role.

Its probably a shite idea. Someone make it better. Quick. :)

Would this be like an short AGS thing, or a comic kinda thing?

How about, instead of typing out a scenario or writing captions, the entrants actually make a short in-game video including the BGs, sprites and inventory items? The 'videos' could also be semi-playable, with the player choosing dialogue options, etc...

Then the winner of each competition supplies the images for the next competition (either draws them or takes them from a game somehow).

Edit: Dang Nipper got in before me, but hey.

i was thinking more along the lines of a single screen image.

Well, the idea of one of those sticker-book thingies sounds quite appealing, but it could be pretty limited by the poses of the charcters, space in the BGs, that kind of thing. You might find a lot of the entries look similar.

Lots of short little sequences could be fun though  ;D

I second that.

I personally like FrogMarch's idea better. Having a little cut-scene competition would be fun. I personally wouldn't have any clue how to get all those characters and objects in one screen that would actually make sense (or be funny).

But that's possibly where the funniness would come in... from the total randomness of the cutscenes. It would also mean that each entry would be completely different.

Zooty and Nipper, just out of interest, which idea were you supporting?

I think you got me wrong there. I was talking about DanClarke's idea. I meant, that I wouldn't have any clue how to get all this stuff in without animating or dialogue. I'm totally supporting your idea FrogMarch.

Oh, that's cool. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

DanClark, you're idea makes me think f one of those Flash things where you drag different clothing onto a person... but, like I said, it could be pretty limited.

On the other hand, I'd be willing to have a crack at making a cutscene, if you supplied the bits and bobs...

Edit: I just re-read this from the start and it looks like I've totally stolen this whole thread. Sorry about that, I didn't mean to!
