Previous topic - Next topic

[Cameron]

Evening all,
I have for a long time been interested in journalism, but until now i have found no outlet for thuis interested. Notice how every month or so a magazine pops up on these forums, most failing as they all try to cover the same topics as the already well known and respected ones. I have often contemplated starting one of these magazines, but as stated above, it would have been an excercise in futility. I mulled over this problem and came across an answer, why write about games, in fact, why write about anything specific at all. Now to the reason for this post. I wish to start a magazine about anything and everything, the latest album you listened to and how it wasn't as good as the bands last, a promo for you game, local happenings in your area, anything you can think of. The one staple article that i wish to have in each issue would be gonzo jounalism (Hello Hunter S. Thompson) Writing about what you are doing as you are doing it. Now to the second point of this thread. Three simple little words; I. Need. Writers. You, yes you. If you wish to write about anything - not just jounalistic articles, maybe an occasional short story or poem - please PM, email or telepathically contact me stating your name and link to your piece and your email adress and I shall read, reply and publish. Hopefully this message is read. Signing off, your beloved editor,

Alec

A matter that is interesting me lately is about sceptical magazines... That publications are cool, and in many times is just hilarious to read how this publications show the truth about the "sciencist" reports that the esoterical reviews write about esoterical stuff.

I would really like to read a "sceptical" corner in that review. I could do it, but my Engliz iz two bad.

Just my two cents about possible contents.
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

I will pay you at a standard rate of $0

Well, at least he's honest...

I don't want to be a party-pooper, or anything, but haven't you got your hands full with Knightsbridge Chronicles? It's not just a game, it's a whole series. DO you think you can manage both that and a mag and not let either suffer?

I would be interested... but first I would like to know more about your idea - the character of the magazine, the way you'll publish it and what are you specifically looking for. I know you said it might be anything, byt "anything" is a narrow branch in a magazine.
Studies show that 50% of the people do not know they form half of the society.

redruM: Although Knightsbridge Chronicles is a series, I only partake in the first game wich at the moment is in the hands of artists. So I could definatly do both without letting them suffer.
lelev: Publishing would be pdf files posted in the General Discussion (Unless I get a website). In terms of what i am looking for, experiences. So it could still be about anything but your experiance about whatever subject you are writing on.

[Cameron]

Sorry for the double post but, I am looking for writers. Please contact me if interested. So far pslocum and Alky are writing, please help me fill out some pages and write.

You have good intentions, but people might be a bit careful about starting time-demanding projects when they know very little about you or your magazine.

Usually, people who administer and publish literary magazines are experienced writers themselves, and very skilled in the art of critiquing journalism etc.

[Cameron]

Just to let the writers know. The deadline is Saturday November 6th. So if you've left it till late you better get cracking.

I don't want to pour cold water on your idea, but it might be worth thinking about WHY magazines write about specific topics, and then wonder at what you might lose if you decide to have a magazine that has no remit at all...

Is there a target audience? Would YOU read this magazine if someone else were writing it? It SOUNDS like a really great idea, but I don't see how you'll avaoid "failing" like these other mag's you've observed. Will you really carry on after the first flourish of ideas has faded? Do you have a long term plan for where your magazine is going to go? Are you going to be able to keep your readers interested for more than the first 3 or 4 wacky issues full of mad-cap articles?

If the answers are all "yes" I look forward to reading your publication!
