Title: Creating curves in photoshop.
Post by: Estaog on Sat 26/03/2005 17:26:48
I'm kind of in a hurry so I won't be getting into much detail. I just want to know how to make a curve in Photoshop (I think it's with the pen tool, but I can't work it).

You can use the pen tool to draw a curve, but you'll have to 'freestyle' it ( just draw it), but that usually turns out like crap without graphic tablet.

The only perfect way of creating a curve is use the vector tools... Try those out and you'll get what I'm saying!

well... what kind of curve are you talking about? I can make all the curves I want without a tablet or the pen tool

Tablets for me aren't that good at making perfect curves anyway...

So if you elaborate we can help...

And if you're in a hurry don't post, wait till you have time to actually post...

When i create a curve with the pen tool, it fills it in with black colour. Is there any way of removing that?

MrColossal: I want to make an elbow curve.

select the pencil tool, not the brush tool, click once, move the mouse and hold shift and click again, see how it draws a line?

Makes lots of little lines that make up a curve, very quick and easy

I just use the circle tool, distort it to what I want, then trace it.

By using the technique I told you a few posts ago I made this:

Just try it or post the image you're trying to do..

Get a tablet would be my best reccomendation, its possible with the mouse, but it's unnecessarily fiddly and time consuming. Ive done drawings with a tablet in minutes that would have taken hours with a mouse.

I just upgraded my computer, it wouldn't be really fair on my mom and dad if I asked them for a tablet now  :-\.

I got a pretty good one for 20 euro which equals approximately 20 dollar at eBay.

You don't have to spend 200 bucks for a high-quality professional tablet. Maybe later when you get really good but to get started something for beginners is just fine!
