I have just seen that Australia have also lost the second match, and therefore the trophy!

The Aussie's were on 152-8 before rain stopped play, with freddie bowling beautifully.
Although I can't say that we deserved to win the trophy on the whole!

England won the series 2-0

Quite a turn around of form from the English

Collingwood had a great series, and I think Plunkett will become a good bowler

The match was rain effected, which brought in the Duckworth/Lewis system which totally changes the way you have to play, but I still think England would have won regardless.

It's taken 3 months but England finally have something to smile about.

They may have not had a great series from the start, but they played their best in the games that counted, which is good practice for the world cup

Australia just lost a 3 match ODI series against NZ in NZ 3-0

They didn't take a full strength side, leaving Ponting, and Gilchrist at home to rest for the world cup (captain and vice captain). And this was considered very arrogant by NZ and it probably was.

Brett Lee got injured at training before the series and may miss the world cup, and Andrew Symonds may also miss the world cup with a shoulder injury he acquired in the previous series. Michael Clarke also went home injured. Matthew Hayden is now also injured with a broken toe, during his massive innings of 181(an Ausrtalian record)

I can't believe Stuart Clark wasn't even picked in the World Cup Squad, he's probably the bowler Australia needs right now.

NZ smashed them in the first game, bowled the Aussies out for 148 and got the runs in 27 overs without losing a wicket

game 2: Australia got a ground record of 336, then NZ got the runs with 8 balls to spare

game 3: Australia got 346, then NZ got the runs with 3 balls to spare

apart from the 1st game, it was really close and competitive, but that's Australia's 5th loss in a row, probably many years since that has happened, possibly even decades.

It seems that the bowling is the problem.

I'd never write off their chances for winning the world cup as they do usually have the knack for peaking at the right time, but this just puts more doubt in their minds, and would lift the confidence of any other team.

It's definitely going to be a competitive world cup, and I think anyone can win it, well by anyone I mean, (West Indies, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, England, India, Sri Lanka or Pakistan) If anyone else does, that would be amazing, but very doubtful.

Is the cricket still going?

*Google* Wow. We lost.

When the footy starts pre-season, Cricket just loses my interest.

Jon

I feel sorry for australia, as they are on a terrible run (6 losses in their last 7 games), lost their top ranking in ODI's, and a run of injuries. But I would still watch out for them in the World Cup, as they will have many players back.

hmmm. so does this mean the west indies still has a chance for world cup? or is it that we are still going to get our ass handed to us just not by the aussies as i thought it would be

Glad bond is back :) for nz, makes a massive difference.

Hopefully sa will take it :D, we are doing very well now.

VintageDemon: It's fun playing, more so when you are involved, a lot of time can go by with you doing nothing, but  it's fun when you are involved and actually play a part in the game. Kids nowadays should stop being infront of their pc all day :D, go play rugby or soccer, it's good for ya  :P

Da_Elf

shame on you for calling it soccer!!! its called FOOTBALL!!!! hehehe. unlike that football they play in the states which is just rugby with pads and more crybabys and they cant tell a foot from a hand..should be handball. And baseball. thats cricket with less areas your allowed to hit the ball and again more pads with a padded gloves to catch a paded ball. (dont forget no break for tea hehehe)

Jon

I have just seen the ICC ODI rankings and i am afraid, Da_Elf, that the west Indies are even below england!

I only just noticed that. I know plenty of 12-year-olds who absolutely love cricket, and people even younger than me! That's a completely unfair comment to make. That's like me saying "Oh I've only seen 20-year-olds on this forum, they must not like video games."

Sport is for all ages  :)

Da_Elf

axcept 102 (not a good year for sports.) 103 sure. just not 102 hehe

well i never really had any confidence in us winning WC

I wouldn't get too down yet, rankings gives a brief idea of form over a long period of time, doesn't show who is in form at the current time.

Also it doesn't show stats of how a team performs in their own country, that's a big advantage, having the majority of spectators supporting the home team.

and with a few good match winners, Chanderpaul, Lara, Samuels, Gayle, anything could happen.

I hope they do well

pity they don't have the power in the bowling they had in the past, Marshall (rip), Walsh, Ambrose, Garner, Holding etc.

Da_Elf

typically the whole "home turf" this is great since the team knows the cricket pitch so well. however. we just finished building a brand new stadium for world cup so even though its still in the same location its a whoooooole new pitch which i know our team hasnt had much time to practice on

Jon

I personally think that the players of the tornament will be :

Brian Lara
Kevin Pieterson
Shawn Pollock
Adam Gilchrist  - Star of the show
Sachin Tendulkar (I hope I have spelt that right)

buloght

Yeah, and we all know from which country Kevin really is ... bloody english  :D well actually it's our fault since he played a provincial b-team and never got picked, grrr.

buloght

oops double post.

Our papers read that where South Africa and Australia are playing the taxi drivers are upset none of the big teams are playing there, like India and west Indies. Haha, when did SA and Aus stop being big teams, have WI already started their gameplan?  :D

Da_Elf

gameplan? hehehe. we have one?

Jon

Just seen the WI score. 241-9 I think.

I saw up to 40 overs and just turned it off, without Samuels it was one of the dullest one day innings I have even seen. With batsmen defending, and giving maidens to the bowlers in the middle overs. I thought the WI would really 'go' for it as it was the first match of the world cup, on home soil I might add. But they didn't, and I like many felt dissapointed. But having said this, it might just not be a batting pitch with Pakistan already 39-3 off 10 overs.
