Title: Csound: An intereting way of composing sounds/music Composer
Post by: RickJ on Tue 07/03/2006 16:19:29
I came across this by accident, book-marked it for myself, and thought someone may be interested in it.

So, it's like Reaktor?

Rick, thanks for the link.

It does seem to be working like Reaktor does... I'm downloading right now... Be back tomorrow to post my comments.

But it seems really interesting, and as every free/open source program it can only get better with time...

Actually CSound has been around for 20 years so it's more like the other way around. I've wanted to learn how to use it for a while now but have never really had the patience and have found it intimidating to approach, just don't know where to start.
You might also be interested in PD (http://iem.at/pd/) which is a freely downloadable sort of offshoot of the commercial Max/MSP (http://www.cycling74.com/products/maxmsp). Even more highly regarded and complicated sound design/experimentation tools I'll admit having no idea how to use...  8)

I used to be into Csound a few years back. It's pretty cool some of the stuff you can do with it, but it takes a lot of work. There are also some GUIs available for it.

Csound is used for making algorithmic and programmable music. It is more a composition tool. For example you can compose a fractal music whose outcome may be pretty unforeseen.

I think we might have a new forum record here!!

A thread that's been dead for nearly SIX YEARS being necroposted to?

Clearly this thread wanted to be alive again. It summoned someone to post. 8)
