Title: Death of a Salesman
Post by: DGMacphee on Fri 11/02/2005 17:29:24
"Nobody dast blame this man. You don't understand: Willy was a salesman. And for a salesman, there is no rock bottom to the life. He don't put a bolt to a nut, he don't tell you the law or give you medicine. He's a man way out there in the blue, riding on a smile and a shoeshine. And when they start not smiling back--that's an earthquake. And then you get yourself a couple of spots on your hat, and you're finished. Nobody dast blame this man. A salesman is got to dream, boy. It comes with the territory."

Arthur Miller died. We used to perform his plays when I did Drama in high school.

I've read about it today... I haven't read any of his books, but the name sounds familiar to me, and he received the Príncipe de Asturias de las Letras... a Spanish award which is suposed to be the second best award for a writer after the Nobel. I think I'll have to look for some book of him...

I plan on reading "Death of a Salesman", or maybe even seeing it. I had no idea ol' Mr. Miller was still around...

What's with all these famous people dying? Next it'll be Carrot Top, for Chrissakes!

Yeah, I nearly cried when I heard that one the news. Well, a man-cry. Which is just watery eyes, basically.

The crucible was one of the most powerful plays I've ever read, and I loved Arthur Miller ever since.

I'm sure he got a big old Pulitzer Prize as he went through the pearly gates...

Jeesus, you said it best, LGM. What's with so many great people dying? Have they become THAT disollusiojned with the world? Is it THAT bad?
