Title: Do you think anyone would buy an AGS adventure game?
Post by: Grapefruitologist on Wed 01/03/2006 06:44:56
If I put my adventure game on a CD, and then put it up for auction on Ebay, do you think that anybody would buy it?
I don't think anybody here would, because you know better. xD But people on Ebay, I have the feeling, would be more likely to buy it, probably because of people who are trying to find birthday/holiday gifts for their relatives and friends and such...
I once tried to put a virtual cat up on Ebay (there are some websites that put stuff like that up for sale on different games a lot like it), and not only did nobody buy it, but people called me "Evil" and "Twisted". o_0 It was really weird...
What's evil and twisted about selling 4 virtual cats for three bucks?

Really?
Ebay, specifically?

I know people have asked if people would buy the game, but on Ebay?

People will buy anything on eBay . If they like adventure games and like to spend money, I don't think it should be a problem.

SBsLoVeNiA, you're VERY mistaken...
I've been trying to sell stuff on Ebay for weeks!
And I'm getting HATEMAIL just for putting stuff up for sale! xD

Sorry to drag this away from the topic, but what are you trying to sell that you're getting hate mail? And what is the hate mail saying?

well once, I saw someone, they put up something, it said" PIECE OF CRAP!!!!!" and it was 1000000 dollars. The thing was an electronic smiley face. Go figure. No bids on it, anyways.

I would buy some of the larger AGS games, on CD. for example I wouldn't mind  buying Kings quest II+ and a bunch of other games that are to big for me to download.

Well, there's a game, Catz, where you have these virtual cats, and you raise them and breed them and stuff, pretty popular game. They have virtual genetics, so almost no two catz are alike, and it's a big job breeding them and stuff.
There was a website called "Petz Auctions" where you auctioned them off for fake money so that you can buy more catz. This website closed down, so I wanted to see if I could sell them on Ebay, because I had really popular catz that everyone wanted.
They were only 3 bucks including shipping and handling for a whole pack of them. That's a VERY good deal, in my opinion, compared to other games where people sell stuff from the game for a ton of money (I was reading about website that were doing that).
So one of the people from a website that gave out free catz emailed me after seeing it on there and said something like "I can't imagine what sick and twisted mind would think up something like this. And don't bother adopting any more catz from me anymore, either." o_0 It was so odd. This lecture went on and on. In the end, I just gave them the catz, and said "take them" (in a nice way) since they weren't being sold and obviously they cared a lot for those catz... 0_o
They never even replied after that.
Then lots of other people started calling it a rip-off, which is understandable, but "sick and twisted"?
It was VERY, VERY odd. Me and my brother laughed and laughed after reading that email. It just went on and on, calling us "sick and twisted" and stuff.
Just some nut on the internet, I guess.

But anyway, I guess it wouldn't hurt much to try. If I get more hatemail, it should be highly amusing anyhow.
The question is: How much would you pay for my game (from what you've heard about it) and how much would you think it's a rip-off?
(It's about a girl and her ex-boyfriend switching bodies and the rest of the game is about completely destroying his life. My artwork is mostly made on Paint, it's in the Critic's Lounge if you want to see it)
$5? $10? $20?
And... how do you burn a game onto a CD?
And how could I make lots and lots of them and sell them like hotcakes? xD
And... how do I make them look professional?
Any ideas?
(Lots of questions, I know)

I found this funny thing on ebay some time ago. People actually sell 'Runescape' money and characters there. And figure that some people even buy them. like someone was selling 1 000 000 runescape gold coins for 7 euros starting. I think childrens connections should be watched by their parents!

I was pointing out that people would buy stuff on eBay that they don't really need(eg. a usb-christmas tree----in June!).

A friend of mine, and yes, this is going to be completely off topic here, once sold absolutely nothing on eBay.  He got like $20 USD for absolutely nothing.  Sounds like a great idea to me.  That and those pictures of game consoles that sell for $300 (read the fine print before buying a game console on eBay ;D).

I saw this thing on TV the other night, stupid things that people buy on Ebay... some people were buying tons of really stupid stuff for lots of money...
But how come I sell something worth it and nobody bids?!!
Oh well. I will try, as soon as I'm done, see how this goes.

i gonna say this right now, unless the adventure game has nice graphics and an engaging story, then the adventure game - ags or not - isn't worth buying. besides, why would you want to buy a ags game with bad graphics when you could download a free ags  game with excellent graphics.
