Title: Does any one have ags_2.21.zip still?
Post by: Szymon_Zy on Sun 17/05/2009 10:10:07
Hello

I want to run Quest For Glory 4 1/2 (i can't run vdmsound - too deep integration with OS) so i need acwin.exe from ags 2.21. All links i found are dead (agsforums does not reply at all) so i hope anyone of you could help me to :/

Searching through forum also gave me dead links :/

I got it running without addition stuff. Be sure to:

- move the qfg_all (or qfg_all_2000) folder to the root of the drive because of long pathnames and unwanted characters (like spaces etc).
- when running from DOS_BOX or other DOS emulator, use these drivers (http://tdold.teadrinker.net/mr/cwsdpmi.zip) and put them in the same folder as qfg. That should get things going. If not, let me know (and then tell me what OS you're using ;-)

Good luck.

AGS version history (http://www.americangirlscouts.org/agswiki/AGS_Version_history) in the AGS wiki has links. ;)

However it seems a lot (i.e., almost all) of the links are broken. :-\

I have v2.0 and v2.62+ but that's it. I assume 2.0 wouldn't help (for obvious reasons) but would 2.62 work?

I have ags_215_sr2.zip and ags_251a.
The ags 2.15 one might work. PM me your email if you want to try.
Or ask Leon (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=profile;u=8130), I think he had a backup of bicycle-for-slugs which had old ags versions too.

Yeah, I have a backup. I've uploaded 2.21 here. (http://gamesolutions.efzeven.nl/files/ags_221.zip)

When I remember right you just need to
1. make a dir in the root of your C drive with max 8 chars (eg. qfg) and
2. put the Quest For Glory 4 1/2 files in that dir.

Then the game runs, can't remember if the sound worked this way.
Using WinXP.

Edit:
Mmhh, I checked and the above way doesn't work somehow.
Then dosbox it is, like leon said.

Hello

Dunno why dosbox doesn't work with this game (is not in compability list), freeze on start up. With ags 2.21 (acdos) under dosbox it works ok with sound. Acwin makes illegal ooperation, and windows kills it :/

Thanks for quick help. I think that this version should be put somewhere on website for compability purposes in order to play old games.

I got a black screen on startup with dosbox but it changed to the intro screen after a few clicks/moments.

Putting up this version alone doesn't really help. Each (older) game is made with a different version so you should have all older versions available again. Maybe in time I'll put them up again somewhere.

using pure dosbox in my case make the game freeze even before comming into graphics mode, but acdos makes it behave like in your post.

Walking by the forum i see that there were a lot of troubles with this game. Too bad the webpage doesn't exist now, so there could be a solution posted.

Anyway thanks again for help.
