Title: domains for one pound.
Post by: Chicky on Thu 02/03/2006 19:28:38
No really, 1GBP. Sign up at the site, pay via paypal and you'll be given a username and pass via email and then you get the domain. No strings attached.

www.domains-at-1pound.co.uk

I ordered two domains and was a bit stumped on logging in. The login on their site wouldn't work and i didnt know why. But i finally got through to someone after two days of trying and it turns out this is the url to login:

www.domains-at-1pound.co.uk/cpanel

seriously, there's no catch. They also offer hosting with the domain for something like 6GBP.

Hope it comes in useful.

*edit*

HAHA! Turns out for your pound you also get hosting and ftp!

Is this only available to UKers?

Not sure, i wouldn't expect so seeing as payment is via paypal. Could there be any other restrictions to non-UK residents? Oh and the domain seems to be pretty great so far, i've never used ftp before but it was really strait forward to setup and use.

It seems there's no way to contact them...?

This website seems a tad...scary...

They don't seem to have got around to putting up the terms of service yet.

I don't know how true it is but I had nothing to lose and have ordered one. & for now I'm considering it legit! Keeping in mind my trust of teh chicken! I don't know what to do next though. I pressed the submit button & now apparently the order is processing. I guess they'll contact me before I have to contact them. Or send me a request money transfer from PayPal?

I've chanced it too, it's only £1. Now I'm just waiting for them to get in touch.

Any idea how much hosting you get?

Mods, Ashen.

They will send you an email (from paypal@domains-at-1... i think) which will have username and password in it, (it turned up in my spam box on gmail) you then enter that into the cpanal link i gave in my first post.

their TOS is here http://www.domains-at-1pound.co.uk/tos.txt

and you can contact them on their irc channel at quakenet (which is what i did, they didn't reply to my email).

hope that's helpful. And also i don't have a clue how much hosting you get, i was surprised i got any for my pound.

The site seems a little dodgy to me.

Do you get ownership of the domain? If so, that's good and you can just transfer it elsewhere and I might get a few. If not, then that means they'll hold you hostage for glorious amounts of cash when renewal time comes up, and it's too much so you end up losing a good domain.

its ringing alarm bells for me too.. check the whois register to see if you actually are registered with the domain name

ok if it is a scam you only lose £1, but cosidering 3 of 4 people here have took em up on the offer its gonna mount up very quickly for the possible scammers, easy money IMO

edit:
even odder is their domain name is registered through 123reg and would of cost them £6 for 2 years! and its set as a redirected domain (its using 123reg's DNS)

use http://www.whois.sc to see if you have the name

in Cpanel it should show you how much space you have

Still no response through email. I've just spoken to gigabeat on PM and he said he didn't receive my order. So I guess their submit form isnt working. And it appears asking him more than 1 question results in him doing a run-hot.

Chicken, whats the domain you bought?

Still no word here, either - looks like I'm going to have to get an IRC prog to chase them up.

here's my cpanal bit

Mods, have you checked your spam folder? I havn't had any problems with my domain. It's online at www.hate-kills.com (forgive the pathetic site design, it needs to be redone (and recoded)).

Gigabeat was very kind and helpfull to me once i got hold of him, he changed my password sevral times before we realised i was logging into the wrong bit.

If all else fails then withdraw your paypal payment and buy a domain again, what browser did you order in?

Oh and Ashen, i think irc is the best way of contacting him.

All I did was submit the order, I didn't make any payments or anything because once you submit the form it says please wait whilst your order is processed. I dunno, perhaps he's waiting for me to pay before anything happens.

What did you do Chicken? Submit form, pay with paypal, then get in touch? BAH its all so confusing!!!!

Still, thanks for telling me your URL. I just wondered, it seemed strange that you weren't mentioning it :P

I placed the order, did the paypal thing and then contacted them.  However, I just realised my email was set to auto-delete anything it classes as spam, so maybe I missed their reply. A WhoIs search says they HAVE taken out the domain name since yesterday (they own it, not me), so the order got through OK.
I've re-emailed them - if I don't hear by tomorrow I'll get on IRC.
