Now the voting is over does anyone fancy doing a 'fantasy' version of the awards?

Basically it would work like this:

You select a game/member for each of the catagories (the one you think will win).

If you are right you get a point.

the person with the most points at the end wins.

anyone interested?

Snake

Hmm. It might even help get more voters. I like this idea, Calin.

Fantasy Adventure Game Studio AWARDS!

;)
Grim: "You're making me want to quit smoking... stop it!;)"
miguel: "I second Grim, stop this nonsense! I love my cigarettes!"

Danman

lol F.A.G.S awards. Great idea snake.

NsMn

Maybe you can just use this for normal compos (Background Blitz, Sprite Jam) and there could be a rule like "every second competition of April has to be run like this" - that means, you enter something, after the deadline, every participant bets on someone, and the one(s) who guessed right get(s) a point. The one who has 3 points first... wins something.

Snake

Wow, this may be off topic, but, NsMn and Danman have avatars that are very much alike... didn't notice until now when they are side by side.

Well it wont get more voters since the voting has finished :p

But it will be interesting to see who people think WILL win compared to who they think SHOULD win.

obviously people will (or at least should) vote for things that they believe deserve the award the most but thats not necessarily who they think the public at large will vote for.

So go on then. Reply to this post with the list of who you think WILL win for each catagory.

you can find a list on nominees here >> http://www.americangirlscouts.org/agswiki/AGS_Awards_2009

markbilly

The only prediction I'll make is that Time Gentlemen, Please! will get far less recognition than it should... ;P

I think you are in for a few, Calin. Don't want to go through and analyse it all though, it will ruin the excitement of finding out... :)

There is one particular quality about this year's awards that I think might make the results a little surprising.

Mr 304 has about 3 million nominations which is awesome and all but it means his vote is significantly divided.

In some categories its 4 nominations for ben and 1 for someone else. so although Ben might get significantly more votes than the other one I think its very possible they might be spread across his games therefore diluting his chances.

This is mainly because ALL of Ben's games are of such a high quality.. it makes it difficult to truly choose the best one.

Or I might be completely wrong.

Who's to say it won't get more voters for next year? That is what I'm speaking of.

In any case, I like the idea. It reminds me much of my brothers betting on each football (American) game every season.

My F.A.G.S bets are in:
Note: These bets are not based on who I voted for...

Where's the point in this? Excited about winning eh Calin? So you want to see a draft of what people have or will vote? I'm 100% sure you did this topic for that, and you're going to deny it of course, but I'd rather be happy than right any day, and I'm quite sad. :D

I think people will suck badly and forget about the coolest AGS game of this year and just all the quite-but-not-untirely unlike Shifter's Box games.

EDIT:

People just vote games they liked. Not based on if something excels in some category.

Example:

Vince won Best Programming in an Adventure Game (I love you Vince you know it!!) from Quest for Glory 2. If anyone's ever programmed anything in AGS he should know that scripting a MAP, Battle System, RPG, Day and Night events, takes an average of one day to do it.
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

The point was expressed pretty clearly above.

To see what people think WILL win and not what they voted for.

The ones i chose above are NOT the ones i voted for but they are the ones i think will win.
Snake also said his suggestion were NOT the ones he voted for.
I also specifically say that your choices would NOT be the ones you voted for.

So on what planet do you think this would be a good indication of how everyone voted. I can wait till saturday to find that out.

Its just a game for people to play to see how good they are at predicting the outcome and asserting that youd rather be right than happy doesnt mean you are right.

You'll noticed I suggested that I think I'll win 3 awards. 2 of those are for things i didnt do (the animation was entirely done by mordalles and the voice work was a team effort of which I am the weakest link). The other I suggested I might win (SFX) I do as a part time job so I have something of an advantage.

Danman

Yea dualnames. You are ruining the F.A.G.S ;D Sorry i feel like saying funny comments today

Snake

Duals! What's the matter, bro? I can't wait to see who comes the closest to getting their bets all correct.

When voting time came I voted for the games that I thought needed to win in their catagories. Betting on who wins what just adds a bit more fun to the waiting process - hopefully absent of prejudice and opinions being taken the wrong way. I myself wouldn't want to see something fun and innocent like this blown up into something it wasn't meant to be originally.

Sorry about my above part, it feels rather harsh towards Calin. No hard feelings there I hope. Sorry If I acted like a jackass.

As for my edit, it's my opinion. Vince is a really good guy, but it's like seeing Annie Android with respect to Ben304! winning Resonance in Programming. Same goes for Nanobots programming versus Quest for Glory 2, with my love and all to Vince, I think he's one of the best programmers.

Calin, my bad I misinterpreted the whole point of this..sorry eh! ;)

As for voice-acting your voice is perfect. And indeed Mordalles did a fantastic job. I voted for Best Programming on Chronicles, because I just couldn't help passing over those puddles over and over to see my reflection! :D
