Seen it already. good for you.
Quite a job they do.
Hehe, wouldn't it suck if his HD crashed before he saved.
That was annoying.
I was waiting and waiting for him to clean up those ugly black lines and double pixels he used for the outline and he never did!
Not that i can do any better but it's hardly worthy of the name 'pixel god'.
Overrated tbh, just like that long line of 'pixel' art a white back.
Yeah, nothing that amazing to me either. It's really not so incredible that this can be done in Paint, because you're using basically the same tools as if you were doing it in PS or Illustrator. The only thing that's a hindrance is the lack of layers. Also, the amount of clean up is immense. The guy is just good at drawing and shading, and he's got great nerves for putting up with all the cleaning and do-overs, but otherwise it's nothing worth raving about.
The shading isn't very close to his reference (http://pixelgod.net/img/gallery/carfake.jpg), but I'd get bored shading in MS Paint too.
This is going to become another one of those is it or isn't it impressive threads again! As usual with the Paint stuff, to anyone that can draw, it's only impressive for its masochism.
it bothers me that it's sped up. I dont know why.
Awesome!! And good music too :D
Ms paint is good for something, then.
Yeah, what was that song? Was that Trent Reznor?
Nine Inch Nails, apparently.. :)
The video says what song is playing at the beginning, Janik.

I don't know if you're kidding or not, but it's obviously sped up since the whole thing probably took like 2-3 hours or even more to draw.
Well, MS-Paint isn't so bad after all :).
How many pixel artists does it take to draw a car in MS-Paint?
20.
One to do it, and nineteen to go "I could do that way better."
Bt
Amazing things can be done in MS Paint...if the program is taken seriously. But it's due to the program's lack of features that a lot of people don't take it seriously. Personally I wouldn't have the patience to do something like that...especially not in MS Paint. If I did decide to do something like that it would take forever and wouldn't come out looking as good...but I would never dream of doing it in Paint.
Why is it always "more impressive" when someone creates something in MS Paint? It's not like all the features you get in PS or the Gimp magically make you a great artist. Sure it makes life easier, but it's no substitute for talent.
Not that I'm criticizing this guy's work. I'm always in a bit of awe to watch somebody with talent create something out of a blank page (or in this case, a blank screen) while making it look so easy.
I wrote this post in notepad and then pasted it into the subject field not using short cut keys! AMAZING!

pixelation discussed this too recently
Those that can't criticise, those that can do.
The song is NIN, from the latest album. (don't remember the name right now
Now on the matter at hand. I personally found it quite impressive! I'm pretty sure that seeing this done in PS, or vector would be impressive for me as well.
Usually technology is here to make things easier... I'm more impressed by someone lightining a fire with a couple of sticks and some shreded paper, than someone using mathces, it does make some sense... (?) Then again I find the guy trying to light a fire with two sticks, rather dumb! But then again depends on why he's doing it and so on...
Now him proclaiming he is a god. Nope he's not! Still the car he made is not bad. Of course using PS he could've made a better one! But...

I don't understand this. Can you rephrase?
A lot of effort involved, but the dimensions of the car look very iffy to me. Not to take anything from him, but i really wouldnt spend the time in MSPaint to draw something like that just to prove a point.

That's a shame and an ill missconception!
Helm, Eric, Dan Clarke, all have amazing skills in art! And DO, definately DO, so... :-/
Candle, is that what you mean?

Naa I'm drawing a car.

You can't answer a simple question with a direct answer that doesn't involve a huge dubious smiley?
For starters the guy has skill!
But what this brought to my attention wasn't one artist and his car. (someone said this could have taken him two hours, with fraps I say this could have taken him weeks) Like those Mario videos that everybody got all hyped up about - they forgot that anybody could save in emulators and take as many shots as possible in any given level and combine the video into one seemless file.
BUT! I like the concept of frapsing (sp?) the process of drawing. So let's see more of that, eh? What say you?
Come on Helm, your smarter then that to know what I mean.
Its annoying when people make horrible art in MS Paint and blame it on the program because I use it for EVERYTHING I make and I like to think that my stuff comes out quite nicely, if not professional but above the par of most AGS games.
But why bother sticking with MSPaint? You'd just waste time and cause yourself unnecessary aggravation.
This is an amusing video, but I find cars and the drawing of cars immensely dull.

To head-off a problem, I think this means: "Come on Helm, you're smart enough to know what I mean."
I also think it's perfectly acceptable to criticise something you can't do. I can't sing, but I know James Blunt's songs are awful.
Since he relies so heavily on the curve command, I'd say he's taking shortcuts most real pixel artists wouldn't. It takes good technique to draw a smooth looking curve in low res. Between using curves at a higher res and the video compression, he bypasses AA and other techniques. He could also save a lot of time if he bothered learning keyboard shortcuts. Oh, wait that would be cheating, right, since it makes it easier.
From a less specific art standpoint, his piece is uninteresting. He picks his colors when he's working against a white background, which will monkey with the perception of other values. Some of the lighting is weird, since the front windshield has a glare from a backlight, yet the hood doesn't show this. It's fairly obvious he's drawing from a photo reference. At the same time, I've never seen a sports car look so drab and unexciting.
If you want to use the novelty of a shitty program, there are worse out there. Some of my first experiments with pixel were done in a QBasic program that used the arrow keys to move the cursor (+ and - to change colors between the default EGA palette).
I would speculate that he hasn't posted the BMP anywhere because it looks significantly underwhelming at full size without compression.
Well I liked it.
