Title: Dreamfall & Paradise.
Post by: Barbarian on Fri 02/06/2006 15:33:42
Anyone had a chance to play these games yet?

Looks interesting. If I get a chance to get my hands on a copy, I might go for it.
Nice to see that adventure games are still making a bit of show in the gaming market.

I've gotten bored with both. Dreamfall I actually only played once. I got to the second city, but I got bored thereafter. I just don't like full 3D games. Plus, it wasn't so much of an adventure game, as it was a slideshow. It's still sitting on my HD and I will get back to it. Paradise I played a few times and I got out of the harem, although I did have to use the walkthrough. I'm gonna get back to it some day. Dreamfall is supposed to have an awesome story and Paradise has some Sokal-charm, so they're both worth at least a try.

Nope, but thanks for letting me know about "Paradise"!

Dreamfall was nice at the start, but I gave up at the second area too... nothing to do with it being 3d because it's very pretty and controls fine, but everything to do with it being a boring game. Only occasionally does it feel like a "game" actually, it's mostly a story that didn't hold my attention.

I think this is the case with a lot of modern adventures. But I didn't hold much hope for Dreamfall anyway...The Longest Journey is vastly overrated. :-\

Yea.. The Longest Journey was beautiful, but the long amounts of dialog just made it boring.

Actually I loved the longest journey, and I'm waiting for Dreamfall to arrive in the mail (the mail system is so wonky, I can get things to me in 3 days, and others take months, no rhyme or reason for any of it).

I've played and finished Dreamfall.

The fighting is out of place and awful, and should've never been in the game. To begin with I found it boring. Because, you know, I don't give a crap about the main character's personal problems. Atleast not in that detail it was presented.

The fact that you can die adds more suspense in the game, so I don't see that as a bad thing. But when the game pretty much consists of sneaking past enemies all the time, it gets dull. During the last few chapters of the game, I felt like I was just running from point A to point B, without too much "adventuring".

Luckily, there was just one "turn-the-statues" puzzle in the whole game, which suprised me a bit. Unluckily, a troll will crush your bones to oatmeal if he sees you while you try to solve it.

Still, it's a good game, and I recommend giving it a try. Once you've gotten a few chapters into the game, it gets interesting. "What will happen next" is actually what kept me playing. But you could say I was rather disappointed when I found out that
Spoiler
the ending was totally open, and alot of things were left unexplained. The game had built up the tension for this marvelous ending, so it was kind of a let-down. So a sequel will probably follow up.

I'm also glad to see that a norwegian gaming company could make a game this popular.

I haven't played them, but are they like Syberia? Syberia was not boring, I loved every second of it! Both parts! The first part even ended a bit sudden...

I agree, I was all ready for there to be a puzzle, and then it ended.
