Title: Enter the Matrix Graphics card
Post by: Sam. on Wed 25/08/2004 10:21:48
Not specifically enter the matrix but I am using that as my test. I recently bought a new pc but it has a basic graphics card. I therefore want to buy a new one and have found this. it is called :
GeForceFX 5200 128MB DDR AGP RP DVI VO

I am assuming that someone in the forum has the game for PC and could tell me, from the specs on the back, if this card would work with the game. a link to where i am buying from is below. I would be really grateful if anyone could help.

also its a decent card, its the same one I have and doesn't get too hot or laggy when its used for awhile. Remember that your RAM and CPU speed also has a say in the issue of how well the game will run, remember to check them out, you should beable to find the game specs on a site such as Play.com (http://www.play.com) or  Amazon (http://www.amazon.com)

well, I have 256 ram and a 2ghz processor seems to be more than what is stated on Play.com so I am assuming that it is my graphics card, how do I find out what My graphics card is on XP? I can't see it.

256MB is a little low, I think most games like EtM need 512+. I only have 368 and most newer games dont run well.

on that play.com place it says minimum is 128 and recomended is 256 ..
but maybe I'm wrong..

also, where can I get more Ram frm in that case, is it just a buy some more and plug it in job or do I need a specialist?

save up a bit more and you could always try this:

http://www.dabs.com/uk/channels/components/graphicscards/productView.htm?quicklinx=3750

supports DirectX 9 and pixel shaders.

I'm sure it'll work with the game. You won't be able to run it with all the details turned up at a super high resolution, but it will work.

True... although im sure the radeon is more reliable or somthing... its an extra £40 afterall. Im quite surprised that you can get a card that supports bumb mapping at such a low price as £32.

GeForceFX5200 should do fine, just make sure you have the updated late-July graphics drivers and you have DirectX9.0c. Actually, I have the same card and it runs Doom 3 fine on the lower settings, so Matrix shouldn't be too hard. I can also run games like GTA, Spiderman 2, etc... full speed...

This is what I am running and enter the matrix plays just fine.
Asus P4P800VM MoBo
Intel P4 2.6GHzÃ,  w/ H-T Processor
512Ã,  PC3200 Corsair Memory
120 gig 8mb buffer 7200 rpm Hard Drive &
20 gig 5200 rpm Hard Drive
Nvidia GeForce 64mb AGP
Win XP pro

My old setup was a 950 MHz machine with 256 memory and it played fine also. One thing that might be holding you back is not the graphics card really. Although getting a new one will fix the problem. I bet you have on board video which gets it memory from your system memory so if you only have 256 and have your onboard graphics set to 128 then your system is left with only 128. Check your Bios settings and see what your Video memory is set to. As you can see above my video card is 64mb and the game runs just fine. No problems at all. But thats because it isn't stealing system memory.

Hes saying that because you have a standard video card thats integrated into your computers motherboard. And not one that if plugged into an expansion slot. That the video card is getting its Video Memory from your RAM Memory

For instance:

You have 256MB of ram, and your onboard video card is a 128mb card.
If this was true, then your computer would turn on and only think you have 128mb of ram, even though you have 256mb. This happens because the video card is using 128mb of your RAM as video memory.

yeah, but how do I change that?

when you start you computer up you should be able to hit something like F8 or the del key to get into your computer bios settings. it usually says when you turn your computer on to press a key to enter setup. which key depends on your motherboard. and it might not say setup it might say bios or something. but it should tell you when you start your computer. Most do atleast. then somewhere in there it should have options for changing the onboard video memory.

But I have to admit if you can afford the video card I would get better one anyway. When you replace your video card your onboard memory will be freed up and you will have 256 again.
Title: ATI radeon?
Post by: Chicky on Fri 27/08/2004 11:02:17
rather than starting a new thread i thought i'd post this here.

I am also looking into getting a new gfx card, as some of you already know. Now I'm looking for something that can handle half-life2 nice and smooth. With this in mind I've been looking into the radeon9600XT and 9800's, because both these cards come with a free half-life2 voucher. The only problem is... I cant find anywhere that actually states they have the voucher included!

There was one auction on ebay, for a 9600XT 256ddr going for £100 which stated that hl2 WAS included. But when it came time for me to bid i found out that paypal was aparently "experiencing difficulties". Which sucks because i couldn't buy the card and now the auction has ended. I've been searching for quite some time now, with no luck.

So i ask you, my good friends at agsforums. GO forth! and find me that perfect deal on the radeon with hl2 included.

My price range is >£100

*edit* well that was a pretty pointless post. I contacted the buyer and aparently it was his side of things that was messed up. He fixed it and now the gfxcard is in the post. 1st class delivery ^_^.

On a extra note. If anyone has any spare DDR ram i would buy willing to buy it off you.
