Well, self explanatory.. I 've always seen weird images for avatars.. As for mine it's an inventory item from CMI.. It's a cup o Joe.. And the cup is decorated by the lucas arts logo..
Mine is the answer to every question ever posed by mankind.
Mine? I'm surprised you don't know by now :)
My avatar (which is about to be updated) is a hairless hamster.
The hairless hamster is not actually a breed of hamster, but rather a mutation. They have lower immune systems than regular hamsters, and shorter life expendencies.

Mine is Dollar the monkey who has been my character for many years. First started when a friend and I were playing with toys (as opposed to on computers or consoles, this was a long time ago), and we had a monkey puppet running an airline business that only cost $1 to fly on, but would take you to some country you didn't want to go to where you would have to pay one unit of another currency to another similar monkey to fly somewhere else. I'm British but one dollar had a nicer ring to it than one pound.
Then I was introduced (by the same friend) to a game maker called O.H.R.R.P.G.C.E. (http://hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/index.php/Main_Page.html) and I made my very first game staring Dollar in "Dollar's Quest" - I knew nothing of the Sierra games back then. Since then I've tried out lots of game making programs and Dollar has stuck with me, although only making it into one other finished game (and several games which were mostly finished).
More recently I've tried my hand at Flash animating, and have 95% finished one with Dollar in it. The picture in my avatar is taken from that animation.
There you go, my forum name and avatar for the price of one. (Avoiding the ridiculously obvious pun)
If you don't know, get the hell out.
Umm, I think, I can provide a long story about my avatar too.
Firstly, I'd like to say that I'm annoyed, because some lazy people use random pictures and animations from the Web as their avatars, instead of making them by themselves. There are even sites, providing free avatars! Can you believe this? So, I always make my avatars by myself, in Paint.net and UNFreez as far as I can remember.
Anyway, back to the business. The picture, I use as my avatar is more complex, than you may have thought. Look at the background. You can see something red and green over there. This in fact is my old, first ever avatar, multiplied and squeezed all over the screen a bit:
I made it the same day, I've discovered layers. Ah, the nostalgia.
Now the foreground. You may or may not recognise a shape of Skype logo. You see, Skype lets it's users pick one of it's own pre-made avatars, which are all in the shape of Skype logo, like this one:
I, of course didn't like it and decided to have a little revenge. I cut the shape, filled it with the evil gradient and even typed my name on top!
Now the animation. I just made some effects with my beloved Paint.net and looped them together. And since I had a headache at that time, I decided that my avatar will give anybody who sees it a headache too. That must be the reason, why everybody around hates me.
This explains my avatar. It is such a good song :D (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=flESd2vFXy4)
It's a soapstone carving of an elephant (with a tiny elephant inside of it) made by some poor guy in India. I like it, it sits on my living room windowsill, and I took a photo of it and used as my avatar because having an avatar that means something is a waste of effort.

Explaining my three avatars:
1) The "Broken GIF" avatar. I always thought it was funny to intentionally set my avatar to the image of a broken GIF. Even funnier is the fact that it's actually saved as a PNG. ;)
2) The "What if" avatar. It's a bunch of propagandist crap that's full of lies and I love it because it was made by me about a girl and no one gets it.
3) The "monkey Claus" avatar. Simply enough it's there to show off my Santa Claus-esque physique. It started off as an image of me on the ride "it's a small world" at Disney World. Then I applied some prepubescent Photoshopping techniques and ultimately painted over the whole thing to turn it into a Christmas avatar. I hold on to it in the hopes that one day I too can look that shnazzy. On a somewhat related note, the non-Christmas version of this avatar has long-since disappeared and has no intention of ever returning.
Hehe... I remember asking Tuomas to remove the lived via PM... I actually didn' t, I just asked him if there was a sentimental reason or something, because it was quite disturbing and unappealing. He was kind enough to save me seeing that gore thingie. I now have Dexter, from the TV series, but I don' t really like to keep avatars for too long. I had an ant before, because ants are cool...
Well my avantar is a guy with a bucket on his head.
The story behind my avatar spans multiple continents, cultures, and times.
It all began back in the Russo-Turkish War of 1787. Prince Potemkin had just taken Ochakov and was preparing for his victory celebration when one of his generals noticed a slain Puma lying in the grass not ten feet outside of the camp. The Prince went to have a look, and found himself overcome with emotion that such a beatiful creature had met its end in such a cruel way. A tear came to his eye, and he vowed never to fight again.
The Prince then enjoyed an evening of wine and beer with his men to celebrate their massacre of the town. By the time he woke up the next morning in a drunken haze, all memories of the puma had faded and his army went on to bravely slaughter several more towns full of civilians.
We then fast forward to 1863, the height of the American Civil War. Ambraham Lincoln, who was holidaying in Europe at the time with his family, came across the remains of the puma in a shadowed valley. By this time it had decomposed and been eaten down to merely bones, but upon seeing it Lincoln also shed a tear. Somehow, he knew that this puma had not died of natural causes.
Just at that moment, his comedy sidekick came over to see what Lincoln was looking at. Upon seeing the remains, he said, "woah, is that a puma, man?". Lincoln's lips turned up at the corners, and the idea was born.
After spending many months selling Puma Man (or "L'Uomo Puma" as it was referred to locally) merchandise, Lincoln remembered that he was supposed to be fighting a war back home. So, with that he set sail back across the atlantic, taking the tale of the Puma Man with him.
After Lincoln's death the tale faded into legend, and then into myth. It was largely forgotten until 1979, when script writer Luigi Angelo was studying some American Civil War texts and found reference to the puma and the effect it had had on Lincoln.
As a tribute, he wrote the film "Puma Man", that we all know and love today.
Huh... What? Are you just making this stuff up?
Mine is hand-drawn by yours truly in an attempt to create an enemy in the style of the game Dodonpachi for an activity over at pixelation.com. I like the result and it was perfectly sized for being used as an avatar.
It's a guy with a tophat and a monocle, scientifically proven to be the first and second most awesome pieces of non-essential clothing. Need more extrapolation?
S pixeled by me (huh a surprise :) ) to represent my first nickname letter S, it has some higher meaning and will be explained in my book "History of Sektor 13 - A truth behind the thirteen"... until than...:P
I really only have an avatar because of Dualnames' thread about changing one's nickname. I was just gonna go and change it, but then ManicMatt pointed out that no one would know who I was without an avatar, so I went for it.
It is a small silver trumpet. On a keychain, if I'm not mistaken. It reflects my former name. ...even though my trumpet is not silver. It is unfortunately gold.

Chortle at Joker's boner!
Mine is a Super Scottish Hero flying through the air with his kilt flapping through the breeze, which somewhat startled the flock of heron and airline pilot who happened to glance in that direction from behind during an inopportune flap...
Well mine is a self-portrait, designed back in 2003. Of course I'm meaner and crustier looking now, but I'm too lazy to update it.
I've seriously considered changing my avatar, over the years. It's kind of flat, blocky, and it doesn't have the correct size (thus the black bar on the right side). But several people have since included me in their games in progress as either a model for a villain or as a holder graphic, so I figure keeping it lends me a degree of celebrity now.
And then there's the issue of branding. When I post something now people jump to pay attention, because they know a ruthless old German dude will get all pith helmet on their ass if they don't. Would they do as much for a novel fluffy little bunny-wunny? I think not. At least not at first: it would take years to build up the same instantaneous recognition that my current avatar commands. In the final analysis, it just wouldn't be a BaRoN post without it.
BaRoN
Mine is a picture that I got from...well...I actually do not know from. It is soooo long time ago. Seems (well, seemed) cool to me. I have a few avatars that I use, this one was my first. But some of them are really eccentric (for ex. Leonid Breznev rising his awesome eyebrow) and I use them only in some places...

Talk directly, man. It's an internet forum, no real punches. Behind-corner-talk is really irritating. Imagine that someone says that
one of us (no name) is child rapist. How would everyone feel?
Everyone's an individual, no one considers himself/herself an abstract person or a member of abstract group. And making comments on specified groups, divided by some variable, such as race, sex, lifestyle, etc is usually viewed as bad thing nowadays and named with nice names such as antisemitism, racism, homophobia, etc. If you want to give names to a rabbit, don't say "someone with long ears" or donkeys get hurt.
Well my old one was of Lenny Loosejocks from E-Zone. E-zone was my first fave gaming site back just before 9/11
However in light of the holiday season, and my great fandomness for Calvin and Hobbes I chose this Calvin avatar. His look of bewilderment and wonder in this coming holiday season matches my own.
I think people DO identify themselves with an abstract group quite often. What is patriotism or any kind of nationalism or team sport or school spirit, or cliques for that matter? We identify with our non-genetic clans all the time. We WANT to identify with those groups. Yes it is wrong to judge more on the group image rather then the person as an individual. But that doesn't mean a certain amount of affiliation with abstract groups isn't healthy.

I've added avatar image just recently. For many years I had none. It's just a fragment of an early version of Bum's title screen. If I happen to make another game I'll change it accordingly.
The figure in my avatar that you can barely see the detail of is a sprite I was pretty proud of, even though he's largely a paint over of a Street Fighter III sprite. (Yun, if you were wondering) Oddly enough, at the time I was working on the idea of a Street Fighter knock-off called Space Fighter, where loads of sci-fi characters fought possibly in MUGEN. I cannot remember most of the roster now but for whatever reason I included two characters from Isaac Asimov's Foundation series - the Mule, and Hari Seldon, which is who the sprite is meant to be. Somehow. He comes from a planet where everyone knows Kung Fu so I figured he'd dress like a Fu Manchu pimp, I guess.
He's also wearing a santa hat because I changed my avatar for Christmas and couldn't be bothered to change it back.

Hey...I'm 31. :~(
37 and counting. := If Babar is correct I'm close to being an Old One.
If I remember right, we had an "Average age" in the board stats, but not anymore.
/me summons the AGA!

I dare to say that even the non-active members are getting older - refraining from posting doesn't stop aging :P
Unless they're dying .
But I meant more in terms of average age, rather than individual ages. Like when AGS first started, most people using it would've been in their mid to late teens (having played the "original" 2D p&c adventures in childhood), and then that same age-group/generation aged, occasionally people leaving, occasionally new people, sometimes younger ones, who learnt about adventure games after the fact, or from the modern resurgence, but not enough to bring the average age down, just slow it a bit.
Not that I've done any scientific study or anything, but I'd suspect the average AGSer age would be around the mi-20s now?
Nice to see some fellow 31 year olds out there.
Picture is the lead character from my first game (still in development...)
Ah, feels good being 22.
Oh, my avatar? I guess it's a baby sloth.
Mine is Stanley Kubrick on the set of Dr. Strangelove. My favourite American film director.

My favorite film director, period.
Mine is a character from a game that was abandoned, created by a friend.
At 32, am I getting to old to make adventure games ?? :~(
Or perhaps I should just get on with it and draw a young looking avatar, and with all that young avatar energy pump out the greatest game to rock your socks since you watched the Sammy's Quest tutorials in slo-motion in your Mom's basement!
(I am sorry that old lame people have nothing to add to threads.)

[...]That's the power of avatars! :)
I once posted a photo of myself somewhere around here, and few people complained about me not actually having a beard.
Link please! ;-D

Don't forget that I'm still one of those teenager pipsqueaks which are
active (or atleast I like to pretend so!).

You all should be ashamed for feeling too old just at the age of 31-37 :P!
Everyone please (especially MiteWiseacreLives!): Look at our good ol' Ponch (pun intended). 40 and still much younger than many of you ;-D! Yes, that's what you everyone needs: young spirit - body decays but not the spirit (nod).
Who says that old lame people have nothing to add to threads? Ponch, please teach them your skill. :=
Furthermore, Slasher is 58 but never complains about his age and have released very good games. Slasher is one of those fellow AGSers, from whom I'm inspired.

This gives me some food for thought. Theoretically, admin and/or moderators will not know whether an AGSer is alive or not (unless they know him personally). So this means that the age of the expired AGSers will continue to increase. What if the age of an AGSer reaches above 100 while the said AGSer has already passed away, like, 20-40 years ago? 8-0

Is it, though :=? Surely you'll not feel good as much as I being 17.
My avatar is a mishap of a paint-over of butler Jeeves of Colonels bequest. Yeah I know he's got those asymmetric eyes, but it gives him that insane look, I'm not willing to change. Also the colour of his skin reveals that he's a frequent visitor of his employers wine cabinet:P.
Mine is a self-portrait! It's part of a bigger picture I did a couple years ago.
fluffy cottonballs flying around and coming at you floating gently by... or maybe just having fun in after effects...8-)
Here's an Avatar image for you:

I actually prefer Korra for some reason. I didn't expect to like it this much and I definitely didn't expect to like it more than the original. The original was amazing and I feel the new series has the same level of quality, just with more adult themes :)
Oh, and my avatar? It's just a picture of me back when I had hair, nothing interesting.
I made this topic to get attention 5 years ago as a test to see if it can grow up to be the best topic of all time. Damn it failed. Should have started a religious topic or a what's the movie quiz thingie. Mine is a dog that likes to lick the sonicwave of explosions.
Mine is Droole from Space Quest 5 and it's my avatar because Droole.
