Fast Food Rants?

Recently I was listening to the radio while driving some deliveries for work, and I heard a very annoying little rant come on. Some talk show host was complaining that he had gone to a McDonalds late the night before, and ordered something that wasn't on the McDonald's 'late night' menu. They promptly told him he could not have it, due to it being...well...late at night. I followed him up to this point, but then he goes on to complain that the employees were being rude by not allowing him to have the items that weren't on the menu at that particular time. He continued to rant and accuse the people working of being idiots and slackers.

I was pretty upset with this point of view, as it was clearly the McDonald's Corporation's fault, if anyone's. It isn't easy to work in food service, which is something I think a lot of people don't understand or respect.

Anyways. Make of this thread what you will! :)

These days alot of fast food places are understaffed, and so its just easier for the customers to dismissively wave their hands and assume everyone is an idiot instead of looking closer.  And in the case of fast food, it should be expected that you get what you pay for not only in terms of food quality, but also the service.

In the rare occasions I'm in a fast food place I'm usually much more annoyed with the customers, who often tend to be loud and whiney slobs, than the service staff.

I don't go to McDonalds very often but when I do I always find the service very good. I some times feel bad for the people who work there as they always have to be polite and nice even when it's stressfull (and it is always stressfull at Mcdonalds). Anyway you can't expect to get something that isn't on the menu. Maybe if it is like 5 min into the other menu.... but still.

That is exactly the reason why I mentioned it lol  :=

As I myself have worked in fast food for two and half years at one point in my life, I hear ya. Some people just cant comprehend some of the concepts a fast food restaurant has.

One night I was closing at the food place I was working at(Taco Time)  and we had a special that night for two bean burritos. This one guy in a Mercedes pulls up to the drive-through and  wanted to get only one of the burritos and expected it to be the special price cut in half. Which I sorta understand the guys point of view but I couldn't just manually put that into the cash register. Either way thats not what the special was intended for and the guy threw a fit. The only thing I could do was recommend for him to go file a complaint at the main office :/

Here's one for you, McDonalds in the UK advertise only one vegetarian option on their menu called a Vege Deli Delight. The thing is if you ask them for a 'Veggie burger' they will happily serve you one! A completely different product to the Deli Delight which is a sub + veggie patty, not a burger.

It depends who you get.
Most fast food workers are temporary, and really don't care about their job.  I've never worked for a fast food company as such, but I've worked for Odeon... and you wouldnt beleive the amount of popcorn, drinks and hot-dogs that get given away willy nilly.  As a customer it's always worth asking... but you should never expect.  If it's not on the menu then you can't really argue if they don't let you have it... the guy on the radio is just a sulky spoiled little girl.

Stupot, I'm afraid I have overwhelming evidence otherwise ;)

I was idly looking at the news when this fitting video came up. It seems people really do take food so seriously! It made me laugh so hard, I can't understand why somebody would lose their temper like that over factory meat.

LOL!

I'm not a breakfast person unless I am making it for guests. When we go on a trip we will usually stop somewhere to get a quick "breakfast" before heading on the highway. This quick breakfast usually consists of a bagel or doughnut with an iced coffee. Now on top of not being much of a breakfast person, I also don't like sweet foods - with the exception of a rare craving. I like my sodium - which I'm sure my heart will protest at one point in the future.
To get to the point, one thing that has always puzzled me was the fact that if I wanted a double cheese burger at 8:30 in the morning, I can't. I have to choose something off the breakfast menu. Being a "burger joint", you should have the choice to order a burger at 8:30 in the morning if you want.

Love that movie!

I prefer to get fat and lazy off processed foods from grocery stores. But when I do eat out I have to say I have an addiction to Arby's. Always been quality food with great customer satisfaction.

It's pretty incredible that all the policies come from the top from the guy's with the biggest paychecks.   And the people who are in the trenches getting the lowest paycheck have to take the heat for it.

The service industry sucks.   I once worked at Auntie Anne's and was instructed to never give the customer more than 2 napkins, and never give them a cup for water.   "These pretzels are making me thirsty!"
"I drink a thousand shipwrecks.'"

I've been mad at the workers because of stupid policies, but at some point I realised how stupid it is since they're only puppets in a game between you and the company. After that it feels humilating to think about it. But when at times you feel like handing out sympathy-cookies they'd rather that you remained silent because someone might hear and think that they're speaking ill of the company. I'd never work in one, even if I had no other choise. My sister did once and I bet she wouldn't do it again.
