Title: Favorite Kings Quest moment???
Post by: on Tue 20/12/2005 19:09:21
With the most highly anticipated amateur adventure game, The Silver Lining (based on Kings Quest characters), back in development, we all need to pitch in by helping to build the hype.Ã,  So, share your favorite Kings Quest moment here: favorite puzzle, plot twist, or even favorite character.Ã,  By showing your support and building the hype you can be part of something great.Ã,  Ã, ;D

the best part must be when you get stuck in those stupid puzzles that aren't even supposed to be solved by an average man. That, and the fact that you play 3 hours a row without saving, and then you click on a spot you want to approach and the character cunningly chooses to take a shortcut through the river or something...

The grave diging in part IV.

This stupid death scenes (falling of the clif etc.) are THE greatest sh*t in AG history.

We realy don't like any title that have word quest in it (except space quest and this only because we enjoy sci-fi)

Although I haven't had DIRECT experiance with original KQ's, I HAVE played KQ1 VGA remake. I remember the first thing I did...

Graham walks into castle
Lots of Talking
Graham leaves castle
I click on the river to move over to it
Graham jumps in and gets devoured by monsters.

Happy Days!

KQ hooked me for the adventure game cause.

I loved the whole concept of KQ1: the fairy tale puzzles, getting past the rat and the leprechauns, climbing up to heaven and defeating the dragon... Surely there were some silly deaths, but that was forgivable. The rest was so original it made up for those.

KQ3 had all those spells to choose from. Admittedly, it got a bit annoying when you had to type up the EXACT recipes for potions, but I liked it all the same. I guess the step up from KQ1 and KQ2 graphics to the AGI system took KQ to a whole new dimension for me. Those graphics really rocked back then.

And to my liking, KQ4 was the best of the lot. The greatest moment for me was when I finally figured how to get the lantern and get past the cave. That puzzle had me stuck for months!

I never got into KQ5 and the later. When the text parser disappeared, KQ lost its charm.

And then came Monkey Island.

I don't think I could enjoy playing through KQ games now, but I surely loved them back then.

You know, esper, like MC Zimmer and his hit "Dance to the music (until your hip replacement gives out)"

Here's my poem:

I like to play Kings Quest
A groundbreaking adventure game
Until I fall in the river
Again and again and again

That was awesome. As a result, I must join in.

There once was a Kingdom named Daventry,
Which always was needin' some saventry,
so a King with a feathered hat,
left the throne upon which he sat,
and...
<splash>

There once was a wizard named Mananan,
who kidnapped whoever he cananan,
until the kidnapped, one glorious day,
courageously chose to go running away,
and...
<splash>

I'll keep any more limericks ending in <splash> to myself :(

Classic stuff, esper! Although I prefer hap, ripped songs myself:

Music trails in.....

I wake up in the mornin' and I ask the elf:
"Is this quest worth 'suing, or should I start again?"
I'm tired o' being stuck an' even worse I'm chased
by an insane old wizard with a spell to waste.

The wiz give a damn about a zeeero?
Nah! You gotta dodge 'im, get the girl and be a heero.
Leave the bowl to the poor, who the hell cares?
One less hungry mouth on the wellfare.

It's time to fight back, that's what Eddie said,
Do the quest, and look back, now Eddie's dead,
I got love for the Father, but we can never 'crease the score,
'less we share with each other!

We gotta stop hoarding all the shit,
learn ta help the other fella do the sharin' bit,
But the only time we chill is when rob each other,
Gotta learn to be real, gotta trade together.

I'd like to go back to 'fore the quest begins,
but things change, and that's the way it is

Music trails out....

I adore King's Quest.  KQIV was the first adventure game I ever played.  To me, they are the standard that I measuse every adventure game to.  Sure, they have their problems, but I still love them.  Every so often I go back and play them, just because.

I don't think that I could pick just one favorite thing in the games.  But, some of my favorites.... KQ4: Getting sneezed out of a whale, cleaning the dwarves house, turning into a frog to swim under a waterfall, and giving each ghost it's prized possession.  KQ5: the ice queen, riding the sled, fighting Mordack at the end, Having the ants find the golden needle.  KQ6:  This game was amazing.  I loved everything about the isle of Wonder.  I also like the puzzles on the Isle of the best and the Dangling Participle.  This game just had so many funny things in it.  It was a lot of fun. KQ7: This game was just beautiful.  I always loved getting to play Rosella.  Valanice was kind of a pansy though.  I really liked Ooga Booga land and Falderal.  KQ8 was a travesty to the series.  As games go, by itself, it was a pretty decent game.  But it wasn't King's QUest.  As for the first three games, I only played them each once.  I didn't like 3 at all.

NOw, that being said, it always had it's drawbacks.... mazes... UGH.  Mazes don't belong in adventure games.  They're just annoying.  And like many other said, too many pointless deaths... although some of them were funny, and in 7, it would take you right back to where you died, which was nice.  Also, in many of the games, there were dead ends.  Like, you could get swallowed by the whale without catching a fish, and then there was no way to get the whistle from the pelican.  You were screwed.  But, I loved the stories and the characters.  I loved the humor.  I just thought they were fantastic.

I love everybody's songs, poems, and raps!Ã,  The KQ hype is truly building.Ã,  We are keeping it fresh and connecting with the youth audience.Ã,  Here is my 50 cent giving props to the original KKI:

Kings Quest - ultimate adven-ture.
Slip past dan-ger, watch out foe da crea-ture.
Tip the rock and find the dagg-er.
How many ways to kill a dra-gon?
Shiny, sharp dagger with slashing act-ion?
Ditch the dagger to show style and grace.
Then splish splash water in the dragons face.
Everybody say "Kings Quest!"
Everybody say "Kings Quest!"
Save the kingdom - it's your fate.
You're being part - of something great!

Try and top that!Ã,  Anyone???Ã,  ;D

I'm all for reliving treasured gaming moments but if the purpose of this is to manufacture hype for an upcoming game... well, it makes me feel dirty, to be honest.

I loved most of the King's Quest games (1, 4, 5, 6 and 7 anyway - 3 pissed me off with the spells and always dying) but I can't talk about that just to promote something that may well be crap in the end (not saying it will, but I haven't played it yet so it might).

No offense personally Rosella, but you're kind of creeping me out with the advertising and the weird comments about the "youth" @_@

But yeah... King's Quest was awesome but Hero's Quest (QFG) is better :D *runs*

Yeah... The youth... Let's all be phat and hip and grow phat on our hips so the youth will prosper... Oh, the children, those precious little midgets. they must come to enjoy old-fashioned games, so let's make hip raps for them...

I thought that sounded kinda seedy too... Hence my above post... Why not hype MY game while we're at it? Plus, y'know, we could sue for intellectual property rights if any of this is actually used without permission to actually hype the game...

Again, no offense... No offense....

Have you tried a DOS emulator? Not that I could ever get my DOS emulators to work, either, but...

Then, one day, I typed the error message it was giving me when I tried to run old DOS games on my computer into Google, and it came up with the solution... Apparently, one of the XP Service Packs deletes a couple files that are necessary to playing DOS games on your compy. After fixing it, I can play all my old games short of those 5 1/4" floppy Commodore 64 games... ::cries::

(as a side note)

You've played TOTEOD?
Title: Re: Favorite Kings Quest moment???

I don't like Kings Quest! Except VI! I'm not sure that I will like IX!

[Paragraph missing]

DOS-BOX always worked for me, with playing old games.

And I have played TOTEOD and its atmosphere is marvelous. creepy! The graphics could use some work but a great first game! And for everybody who knows that me and esper are friends :Duh! At least I don't go everywhere asking to build the hype (That's espers job! ;D)

About the shining thingy, a little further thoughts. I always believed and still do that respect about someone/something must be earned not demanded! And I can't have respect for something not born yet! If I was Rosella, I would wait for the game to come out and then I would build the hype, the best way I could!!!!!

Now, another l33t limerick by ME, to hype my own game... Just for good measure, since I was hyping KQIX a while ago...

Wow.  Why is everyone being so hard on Rosella?  She's involved with something that she is excited and passionate about.  I don't blame her for wanting to hype it.  So some of you don't like KQ.  That's fine, but there are millions that do.  If you don't agree with what she's doing, don't participate.  But, some of you are being downright mean.  What happened to the days when people here supported each other in the making of adventure games?  I mean, isn't that why we are all here?  Because we love adventure games and we don't want to see them die?

Lately, I've seen a lot of posts here chastising others.  People constantly telling people that their posts are stupid, that they don't follow the rules, that they hate the games they are working on and so on.  It's become very very negative, and to me, it's very sad.

Sorry if we are scaring you off Rosella! :) Its just your, as someone else said, "advertising old games to the kids by making "hip" "rap songs" and poems" isnt working very well. If you want to "reach" the kids, you shouldnt try to be like them unless you know excactly how to. I am 15 myself, and love old adventure games, but what you are doing doesnt make me want the old games.

Rosella: the simple answer is this-Ã,  We all have OUR OWN games to hype. I didn't join this forum to be used as a cog in the KQ elitist marketing machine. I joined because I am a creator. I create things, and I have to just about bust my own neck every time I do because getting people to take interest in your work is a real challenge. If we wanted to hype the new KQ game, we would join the new KQ game's forums. These are the Adventure Game Studio forums, for users of AGS, for creators of adventure games. I have been working hard to get my game seen by people, and it still, in 6 months of existance, has only been downloaded 520 times, and has not been commented on or rated. I'm sure that, without my assistance in making "hip rap songs and poems" and "works of art," the new King's Quest is going to have that many download's in it's first day, if not its first hour.

Besides, who are we building hype with? It's not like this is MSNBC. This is a niche forum, and only us game makers are on it.

I personally have lost all interest in the project, and will not be downloading or playing it.

PS: Get a sense of humor. You sound like a 43 year old marketing exec.

PPS: www.allpoetry.com, look up the poet "ESPER," and tell me how "above my head" poetry is. I almost missed that, but when I saw it, I couldn't let it go unpunished.

How about a favorite QFG 4 moment?  "You pry open the sphincter with your dagger."  Now there's some advice that could potentially do certain people some good.  (Edit: Don't remember exact phrase.. but it's the principle of the thing)

Grr. They had the gall to make QFG 4 a talkie, too. I was still an "impressionable young teenager" when I played QFG4, and my mother was not altogether pleased when that John Cleese soundalike said "You open the sphincter with your dagger" as she walked by my room.

I'm quite glad she didn't pass by during what was my absolute favorite QFG4 moment, though...

Rosella: the simple answer is this-Ã,  We all have OUR OWN games to hype.

That's all fine and dandy, so why don't you go hype that game instead of anti-hyping somebody else's.
Title: Re: Favorite Kings Quest moment???
Post by: esper on Sat 07/01/2006 06:49:48
1) because if this is a thread to hype someone's game, it's in entirely the wrong place ANYWAY. If I started a thread like this it would get locked.

2) who's "anti-hyping" someone else's game? I was playing along, until I was mocked, along with alot of the other posters here, including CJ, for being immature.

3) because I can do what I please. This is a public forum. If this were in the place it should be, then I would not arrive simply to "anti-hype" the game like so many troll bastards before me. However, it is in gengen. I have spoken my piece, I have made "hip rap songs and poems" about the new KQ game, I have had a rather kickass piece of art made starring me (Tom Baker, actually)... I have been called (like I said, along with everyone else, including CJ) immature for speaking generally in a general forum and playing around in a lighthearted manner, and I have retaliated.  I have also been agreed with.

So shut the hell up, and defend someone who isn't being arrogant, condescending, and who isn't trying to use this community. I'm here for the ride, the fun, the friends, the community... Rosella, who at present has only 6 posts in this particular thread alone, has only come here SPECIFICALLY FOR THE PURPOSE OF TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THESE FORUMS, and us. I am a member of the community. She is, as I have just called her in a recent post, a "marketing exec" out solely for the purpose of getting more hits. I try to be a worthwhile member, and present my 2 cents, my arguments, my discussions, cool websites I have seen, and my game which I worked very hard on by myself. I participate in Sprite Jams and other contests, and have made a contest myself which was popular for at least a little while... I have made friends, and some good ones at that. I have assisted people with problems as best I could, and been assisted. I have had threads locked, and I have had threads become very popular.

So thank you for sticking up for someone who is obviously out entirely for self-gain. Go rectify a uranium rod.

I do believe that after my wonderfull post (which btw, has the absolutely same ideas as espers), Rosella was "loggin off".

I don't really mind this thread. Everyone who doesn't like to hype KQ (opps), this copy of another copied game who copied all fairy tale, had copyright problems but now don't and everythjing is fine with this huge publicity in their hands... (ooof), game, can stay away from this thread.

Hehe, I have an idea. After having a record deal with FM Records, I will go to the SONY/ Island/EMI Forums to create hype for my new record with FM Records... Futhermore, I will find a way to breach copyright and then use the bad news in my advantage...

Don't get me wrong

It is not that the creators of this wonderfull game (from what I've seen), planned on all of this, but I would like to get a real response from Rosella, or the people behind her/him (if any...).

Rosella, I honestly respect you for loving this game so much, but for some reason I don't find what you are doing here, and this whole thread really nice... Maybe it's just me...

I'm here for the ride, the fun, the friends, the community... Rosella, who at present has only 6 posts in this particular thread alone, has only come here SPECIFICALLY FOR THE PURPOSE OF TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THESE FORUMS, and us.
So thank you for sticking up for someone who is obviously out entirely for self-gain. Go rectify a uranium rod.

I'm just here for the free food...

Looking at rosella's e-mail addy, it seems obvious that she is a member of the fan-games team (unless she is really DG, that sly bastard)and if that is the case, go make a games in production thread and get mad there if someone dosen't go along with hyping your game....

ManicMatt inserts a lighthearted picture of Doctor Who playing King's Quest and falling in the water, being a scene that has been spoken of fondly by others.

Rosella: "DAMN YOU ALL! BURN IN HELL, YOU UNCULTURED SWINE! YOUR MOTHERS SEW SOCKS THAT SMELLLLL!!!!!!!"

Saydmell (or Say as she prefers to be called) is the Director of the PR and Web department, which is responsible for the recruitment of staff, management of contact with all third parties, development of the KQIX website and the community aspect of the project.

But i don't understand: the woman mostly ripped all those tales and legends! Its a bit lame now that i think back on it. And making a remake of a copy-story type game sounds lame to me now .... i just ruined all of KQ for myself. How'd i do that?!

Actually, good luck with that. I hopped on over to KQIX (where I found the information on the poosible "Rosella" perpetrator) and posted MY game on their forum, having cut and pasted Rosella's initial post here and edited it for my game's purposes...

Sorry in advance for the rant.

Quotethis means war.
No it doesn't. Don't be silly. I very much doubt that Rosella meant any harm when she posted this thread. So she wants to hype KQIX. Why is that wrong? It's all very well to joke about this stuff, but if you are actually posting about your game at their forums, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that either, except for YOU. YOU will be the one who knows that YOU are the one who is actually posting for the reason of "revenge" of "getting back" or something. (YOU not being anybody in particular).

Nobody's attacking you, esper, but where do you think this KQIX thread should have been posted? It's not made in AGS, should it have been in "Games in Production"?

I agree with Potch. My favourite King's Quest moment would be KQ5 - the ice queen, and battling Mordack. I loved KQ6 too. Not so much KQ7.

For all that people will say that they hated the KQ series, for people (such as myself) who started out Adventure games with that series, it's classic.

Agreed. King's Quest 5 was one of the first adventure games I played so it will always have a special place in my heart even though it's full of walking deaths. I don't mind so much about the sudden deaths scenes, I mean, it's quite obvious that if you walk off a cliff, you fall to your doom, right? :P

As for the favourite moment... well, when playing with my friend we used to laugh at many funny animations in King's Quest 5. I can't really think of any favourite moment, but if I had to choose one it would be from King's Quest 5 or 6. I never really got into the earlier games, I haven't even played 7 and the demo of 8 didn't convince me.

Pabs: immature? I can't speak for Mordy, but me? There is method to my madness. Team A performs illegal maneuver on Team B, and are not penalized... actually, they are encouraged to continue performing said maneuver by members of the team against which the maneuver is being perpetrated. Member of Team B performs same illegal maneuver on Team A and receives a foul, thus effectively proving illegality of said maneuver. Member of Team B calls him immature, and other members of the team that agree with him.

Petts: Member 2 of Team B agrees with Member 1. Another member of Team B makes fun of an earlier play by Member 2 that scored Team B some good points, not because it is constructive, or because it helps Team A to stop scoring on them, but because he thinks it is funny to put down people who work hard for the team so he looks good.

I'm not saying there is any kind of "competition" going on here. The "Team" thing was just an example. What I am saying is that Rosella may not have meant harm by coming here, but what she DID do was sign on these forums specifically for the purpose of PR'ing KQIX. After she'd collected all her "hip rap songs" and "works of art" and gotten everyone over here "hyped" about KQIX, she never would have been seen again. It's a marketing ploy. It has nothing to do with this community, and as such, has no place in it. I'm sure if I gave someone proper motivation they would go around to other people's forums and say "I'm excited about this new project, let's hype it up!"

Not to mention that she was a bitch just because people were making little jokes, which happens in EVERY THREAD ON THESE FORUMS!

PS: I doubt Mordy meant "this means war" as in, "oh, no, we have to compete for whose better now," but rather that what is tolerated on these forums not being tolerated on theirs is not fair.

PPS @ Babar: WTF? So KQIXers posting on our forums about a game not made in AGS, trying to hype it and get us to help PR it for them, is okay, but when I go to do the same about MY game, which I am very passionate about myself, there's something wrong with me? I posted in their general forum, and I used the exact same format Rosella used. Am I wrong only because my game is not a big glamorous production with a big staff that is a fangame of one of the best adventure games ever? .......Elitism and bandwagoneering at its finest...

Just as you say no one's attacking me, I'm not attacking anyone. Just saying THINK ABOUT IT!

It doesn't even matter. It's like the .0000000001 K of bandwidth this thread is taking up actually matters in the long run, because that's the only effect the whole thing has on the real world.

keeemon, esper! Think about it is right. WAS there anything wrong about what Rosella posted, really? She wanted to hype KQIX. Some of us will think that is silly. But it's not WRONG. As a group of adventure game makers, we're interested in adventure games, such as the upcoming KQIX, and your game.
Now your reason to post there didn't really have anything to do with hyping your game. You say it yourself: you used Rosella's format exactly. You wanted to "counter-attack". Technically, nothing wrong with that either, it's just something for you to think about.

This is getting out of hand, and it's 99.9% my fault. So I'm an asshole. Maybe I should stop caring about the "marketing machine" like a hippie and just relax.

Babar: No, seriously. This has nothing to do with adventure games or adventure game making. If I posted "Your favorite KQ moment," it would be so people could remember fondly a good game. The reason Rosella posted it is because, as Squinky pointed out, she is on the KQIX staff and is trying to get people to remember KQ so they become interested in KQIX. It has nothing to do with KQ, but rather with getting hits to their site and downloads of the game. If I did the same thing, even here in General, my thread would be locked or deleted. Rosella posted here ONLY to pimp the game. Why don't we have CJ start an advertisement forum specifically for people to come here and sell their products? I'll tell you what's next. Pepsi is gonna start paying us 20 bucks a month to have the banner showing the characters from our games holding cans of their soda.

Plus, I wasn't counter attacking... Just running an experiment.

Has no place here? Who is to decide such things? You? I think not! If anyone is to decide about what you can or can't do on these forums, it's in my opinion Chris Jones and nobody else.

The state of General Discussion has been discussed many times before... and in my humble opinion there is really nothing that would not fit in this forum section. So I see no reason why Rosella could not advertise the new King's Quest here.

I WASN'T PISSED OFF DAMMIT!!! (the all-caps is just a joke, mind you)

Seriously. I was just running a liitle experiment. It's not like I was trying to pull a prank on their community so I could sit back and guffaw and say "HA! Look guys, I showed them!" I was simply showing people that they don't like it, and therefore should not be doing it to us.

If you are cool with it, fine. I'm not trying to usurp power. I wouldn't make a good mod, because I'm too arrogant. The whole reason this has gone on this long is because I have a pride issue. And, to all, I'm sorry. I probably should have shut up by now. However, my point was never to say she should not have posted here. I went along with it, until Rosella started acting like a jerk. MY ENTIRE PURPOSE FOR THIS WHOLE ARGUMENT was to tell her NOT TO GET MAD AT US BECAUSE WE WEREN'T PROPERLY MARKETING HER GAME! Everything else I have said was simply to back that up.

I really am excited about making games. I'm excited about the one I already made, and I'm excited to make more. However, when I make my next game and try to hype it, and my thread gets locked, I'll look back and see someone who signed up here JUST to hype their own game being allowed to do so and wonder why I even try being a part of a community in the first place. Maybe if I make fun of you you will see the light and help me, like you're doing here.

Hey, I think that what Rosella did is just fine... Not wrong!

But this doesn't mean that me/esper/Mordy have to like it... And have to shtu up about it.

I'm rather new here, despite my 750+ posts... But still I find this thread, indecent and a poor marketing device to get EVEN MORE attention to KQIX.

I feel a little tricked.

Rosella is saying :"Let's talk about Favorite KQ moments..." and in the first post there is a word "hype". Now these are two completly different things.

Nobdy is saying that AGS Forums (especially the Gen gen), has to have something to do with AGS, but this is rather ridiculous...

Whne I poseted my 1st post, I was locked almost immediately. The post was something like :"Hi! I'm new. I'ma fucking great composer. Do you need me, anybody?". And Barbarian was kind enough to explain to me that these forums are not for personal bosting and that there ios a thread precisly for that. Then locking came.

This thread is advertising to me! And as such, and even worst disguised, it has my pity...

As for Roberta, well... she did steal all fair tales, but she had a talent of sawing them together pretty nicesly. So... Well... I guess... it's ok... maybe... I've done it with my music anyway.

And, even if we AREN'T moderators, and can't say "Hey, I've locked Esper's threads, and Nikolas's threads.. But  I'm not going to lock this one..." We can still say "But look! She's making fun of you!"

And, Pablo... Who is this Chris Jones guy you're talking about? Oh, you mean pumaman, the person that Rosella included in her rant about how we were children whose little minds couldn't comprehend poetry and therefore should make up secret handshakes for our friends on the bus? He doesn't mean squat around here, because Princess Rosella said so!

I find the forced-hyping pitiable, but it's not alleviated any by the response.

There are frequent mentions of "theft" of common fairy-tales.  I never thought of them as theft, since it was quite obvious that Sierra & Roberta Williams didn't craft them.  Maybe it doesn't speak well for their skill as authors, and they might not be particularly creative persons when it comes down to it.  Giving players a chance to interact with some of their favorite childhood tales (often in irreverant ways) hardly comes down to the same thing as theft, in my opinion.

<waiting patiently for an SQ-devotee thread to be railed against since SQ blatantly ripped off The Terminator series (among many other sci-fi franchises and cliches>

This also seems to be another case of a thread only surviving because of the complaints.  If it's that asinine an activity, bloody ignore it.  It's not difficult, really.  If you prefer to let the author know that there's a negative opinion, I'd think you'd be satisfied with the countless previous posts and mockery.  Now if she/he/whatever kept bumping the thread or thinking of "fun" new activities that kept it on the horizon (KQ player character origami!!) I'd understand some bitter or annoyed responses.

That said, I'm looking forward to KQ9, thought the series as a whole was solidly average, think Rosella's a twit, and will leap off of my self-righteous mildly-pissy soap-box and tap my fingers waiting for the thread to die.

Um esper, I think you're taking this just a tad too seriously. I thought Petteri's post was rather funny but if you're going to start insulting anyone who posts anything that isn't "anti-KQ9" then that seems rather silly.

Anyway, yes this thread is one of shameless self-promotion by the KQ9 team. However it's still perfectly valid to ask what people's favourite KQ moment is.

As a free-minded individual you are perfectly free to ignore the KQ9 part of the thread, and just treat it as an innocent "what's your favourite moment" topic.

It's interesting that when you posted a similar thread about your game on their forums, it was deleted. Perhaps they have different forum rules to us. Or perhaps they are stricter with their moderating. I'm not going to stoop to that level by deleting or locking this thread, though.

And yes, every moment in KQ is a rip, it doesn't take a genius to put them together. Every freaking fairy tale is just completely stolen, yes theft darn it people. Think of a fairy tale and they have it. Sure lots of stories are ripped, but roberta just went overboard and took eveything.

Seriously, guys, STFU. CJ himself said to cut it out.

I started out joking, but like CJ said, I took it a bit too seriously. I don't really TAKE BACK anything I said, except my coments to Petteri. When Pett responded "God, I'm never making a joke again," I instantly knew I had been wrong to attack him, but, because of the pride issues I mentioned, I couldn't take it back. I do now. Petteri, I'm sorry.

Pablo... You mentioned something about "acting" like Mordy and I were when you were 11. Unless you were lying in your profile, that would only have been five years ago. It's fourteen for me. I'm normally the first person to stand by not judging people because of their age, but just a thought: maybe you shouldn't be doling out the term "immature." Maybe you're right... Maybe you're wrong. Stop it anyway.

ManicMatt: I aim to please. Thanks for comenting on my game. I wonder how many people are going to go snipe the ratings on it now after this little conversation?

Buloght, I think you're the only one who gets it.

Babar: Thanks. I take that as "apology accepted." I didn't mean to be a tool.

So let's relax. Everyone who was posting their opinions, CJ said enough is enough. Everyone who posted to back me up, I don't need it. I was wrong. Maybe ideologically I was right, but in the way I carried it out I was very wrong. I'm sorry to anyone I offended.

So basically you're saying I'm automatically immature because I'm quite young? Yeah, sometimes I really am! I can be very annoying and say stupid things and I even know it! But hey, at least I didn't send Mordalles a PM saying he's stupid and doesn't have a life. That's about how Mordalles PMed me. I could quote it here, but I won't since it could be considered as immature acting ._.

But I haven't noticed myself posting anything very immature in this thread. Correct me if you think I have. And I apologize in advance if I have. :)

But the most biggest apology goes to Mordalles, who's the one who really got offended by me. I still don't see why, because the only thing I said was that your acting was a bit immature IMO. Then you guys started flaming me. :( Well, sorry anyway. Some people that know me well here as well knows that I'm not the kind of person who likes to fight with other people. I just express my opinions in a very... uh, aggressive way, I think. :P

Mordy, I don't know if you're reading this or not, but don't be an idiot. People like you and respect you around here, even if it's only been a little while since you've been posting. You made a good game, you sprite awesomely, and you do make good jokes and are a worthwhile poster here on the site. This isn't worth getting all crazy about and throwing in the towel. I, like Pablo, argue a whole lot. I've argued with Pablo before. I hope he isn't such a moron that he bears a grudge against me and hates me because of it, and I certainly am not that way toward him. There have probably been a couple places we agreed with each other, or thought something that the other said was hilarious.

The point is, this isn't the real world. Every thread is a new playing field, because everybody has different opinions, and when provoked, it is the nature of the beast to respond in a heated way. Everyone has opinions, and will argue them to the hilt. When you are with real people, this is probably not the case, primarily because if you're right (or if you're wrong) real people have a tendency to bear a grudge, if not kick your ass. On the internet, we aren't real people, but little blue boxes full of text. People feel more free to argue their points when the chances of recompense aren't so high. That is why people like forums so much. The next little blue box that comes up might be funny, or sad, or happy, and you respond in a completely different manner to it.

Pablo: like I said, I don't ever condemn people because of their age. I used to volunteer with teenagers. They aren't "teenagers." They're people. I'm good friends with them. Screw that "mentor" thing. They don't need it. They can form their own opinions and live life the way they want to do it. I quit doing that because I felt like the people I was doing it for were forcing me to treat them like non-entities. I remember being a teenager. when I turned 20, I didn't suddenly become a real person. We all have a tendency to jump on Flukeblake, saying "he's just a kid," but he's a person, and when I realized I was being an idiot I started treating him like one.

I'm not going to condescend to you because you're young. I'm going to condescend to you because you're arguing with me. Which hopefully is done now. I meant nothing personal. Like I just said, everyone on the internet has  opinions, and I was just exercising my right to have mine, as you were doing with your right to yours. Truce?

EVERYBODY, TRUCE?

I don't get the whole fairytale/theft argument.  Nobody ever claimed that those ideas were property of Roberta Williams.

In KQ2, you can occasionally see the Bat Mobile come racing out of a cave, but nobody claims that Roberta Williams stole from Batman.  That's because it was a gag.  Just for noveltie's sake.
The incorporation of fairy tales into the games made them novel, in the sense that yakspit said, you could interact with childhood stories.

I was off-line for the most of the day, yesterday, and lost most of this thread... Shame on me!

*Nikolas slaps himself*

I promise that I'll never do it again.

Favorite KQ moment (it's time I did mention that): The intro from KQ VI! Amazing, especially the part where the camera goes around Alexander in the room, with wonderfull midi music, and after that the storm and the ship... Amazing for that time! Wonderfull!

The game itself was.... ok.... but it did lack a lot of originality, something I'm always after no matter if it is music, game, film, book...

And I'm still waiting for Rosella to come back here and speak her mind a little over this beautifull thread...

Don't tell people to shut the fuck up. You're the one talking way too much.

Yes, but he's the one who's asking for peace in the last couple of pages.
But from a point of view, you are right. I certainly believe that the two members behind the largest posts in these forums are me and epser. I can only speak for my self. I like talking... And this way I hope to get more people talking to me. You can't expect someon to open up if you don't do it yourself now, can you?

Thanks for helping make my point for me, Nik.

I KNOW I was talking too much. I apologized for starting all the shit, and to everyone I offended. However, after the fact, it kept going. Rather than being me vs. everybody else, it became everybody else vs. the people who agreed with me (like Nik). Therefore, I was responsible for the continuing carnage and was trying to help quell what I had created. I had hoped that my post would be the last on the topic and we could move on with our lives.

I don't care for this rediculous argument, just don't tell people to shut the fuck up. Thanks.

And Nikolas, people will 'open up' to you if they find you interesting and worthwhile to talk to, and that doesn't take a constant barrage of posts and pms. Besides, whether or not you'll become friends with people here isn't the sole point of the message board. There could be discussion for the sake of discussion and there's just exchange of relevant information. You don't have to chime in on everything that's being said on every thread.

Esper: There was just one more thing in your post that made me wonder.

I, like Pablo, argue a whole lot.

Me arguing a lot? Nah, I really don't. In this thread I did, but otherwise I really don't argue much. If you think so then you most apparently don't know me very well. BUT as you said, let's leave this be now. :P

Even though I have argued with you before, doesn't of course mean I'd have anything against you. And hey, we did found an agreement every time didn't we? Just like now. :)

Thank you, it was nice to argue with you. Let's flame each other more some other time in some other thread, okay? :=

Ok this has gotten silly, if any further posts are not relevant to your favourite King's Quest moment, they'll be deleted.

I've always had a soft spot for KQ4 - it was one of the first games my parents bought for us (my sisters and I). I remember that when we first got it we couldn't run it at first because it needed 768 kB of ram :)

A lot of people have complained about the arbitrary deaths, but that was the early days of adventure games: when men were men and adventure game characters died all the time ;)

I liked the kind of "free-roaming" feel to the KQ games, where you are in an area and you explore. Lots of games are much too linear. Some of the puzzles in KQ4 were really though (invisible bridle anyone?) - so much so that it took me ten years to solve!

My favourite Kings Quest moment was when in Kings Quest 3 you had to sneak around the wizard and eventually beat him...

The desire to defeate the wizard was strong because he prevented me from exploring the world and he made me do things that were boring, I was not told that he was evil, I just grew to hate him because he made me feel like his slave. Then, when you finally best him, amazing sense of accomplishment and revenge.

Extremely well done bit of gaming there... Too bad it's an isolated event in a sea of standard adventure game puzzles.

Just found a copy of King's Quest VI at a "Good Will" store. Paid a measly $3.89 for it... hope it's worth it? :)

Heh, I should think so, rharpe. :) IMHO, KQ6's easily the best of the series.

My favourite moment is when Rosella, in KQ7, gives the dragon back his flame. Mostly because of the music.

Gimme a break, I was a kid. :) It didn't take much to get to me.

On a side note, the music from the forest/bridge rooms in that same game are still among the most beautiful I've heard in an adventure game.

EDIT - Incidently, here it is, from queststudios: http://www.queststudios.com/mt32midi/kq7_6.zip
