Okay, I figured I'd prefer this thread rather than songs that meant something to me for 2005 in particular, so...
What are your top TEN/FIVE favourate albums that came out in 2005? (Re-issues don't count)
Mine are (In no particular order):
Paradise Lost - self titled
Clor - Self titled
Mew - and the glass handed kites
The Perceptionists - Black Dialogue
Erasure - Nightbird
The Robocop Kraus - They think they are the robocop kraus
Franz Ferdinand - You could have it so much better
Our Lady Peace - Healthy in paranoid times
The Chalets - Check in
Foo fighters - In your honour
HORSE the Band - THE MECHANICAL HAND
The Advantage - Elf Titled (well, it was unofficially released in 2005 ¬¬)
Mew - And the Glass Handed Kites
Boards of Canada - The Campfire Headphase
Emilie Simon - La marche de l'empereur OST (March of the Penguins OST)
Lemon Demon - Damn Skippy!
Oh, top 10 or 5. Well, mine is top 6, in no particular order.
Old Man's Child - Vermin
Sentenced - The Funeral Album
Coheed & Cambria - Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV
Kotiteollisuus - 7
Deathchain - Deathrash Assault
I think I haven't bought an album released in 2006... Just oldies re-releases... Is really music that important? No one is going to release something better than Sargeant Pepper's, why keeping the search? ;D
OK COmputer is better than S. Pepper's (not much, but still better)
Best of 2005 would have to be
White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan

Lemon Demon - Damn Skippy!
The only album I got last year ¬¬
Crikey, I've enjoyed so many albums this year, this should be rather tough.
Several albums that (in my opinion) stood out:
Ephel Duath - Pain Necessary to Know
God Is An Astronaut - All Is Violent, All Is Bright
Jesu - Jesu
Kayo Dot - Dowsing Anemone With Copper Tongue
Magnolia Electric Co. - What Comes After The Blues
Pelican - The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon The Thaw
Red Sparowes - At The Soundless Dawn
Sigur Rós - Takk...
The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute
Venetian Snares - Rossz Csillag Alatt Született
In no particular order, other than alphabetical.
Didn't buy many, but for one at least The Flower Kings made an awesome album, Adam & Eve.
Then I might suggest Octavarium by Dream Theater, but it wasn't very good :P
Oh, and of course Mars Volta and Mew as I noticed while reading the above... silly me.
Bet there was more, but these come to my mind now...
You're all forgetting Mesmerize by System of a Down.
And nobody cares about your obscure, possibly made-up bands Al!
Yeah what kind of band name is "The Mars Volta" anyway?
To contribute, I got nothing. All the good stuff was released in '04, or is due to be released in '06.
Heh, HillBilly.

I'm not.
Okay I liked some of the songs on it, but that backing vocal guy ruins it with his whiney voice!
I've almost worn this cd out already.
Coheed and Cambria:
Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness
Edit: Sorry didn't see it was already posted :-\
Nick Cave: The Lyre of Orpheus/Abbatoir Blues
Double album... King of the musical hill, if you have a band that you think beat out this on top of the musical hill right now, tell it to look up, because Nick Cave is probably standing on their head, and the Bad Seeds are doing their mom.

Nick Cave: The Lyre of Orpheus/Abbatoir Blues
It's damn good, but I think it was released in 2004.
GOSH POOP IT! You're right...
Oh well, so it wasn't released this year... That only means that he's even more awesome 'cause he's still winning....
/me throws a ninja smoke bomb!
AWAY!
Autechre - Untilted
Boards of Canada - The Campfire Headphase
Four Tet - Everything Ecstatic
Elbow - Leaders of the Free World
Sigur Rós - Takk
Amon Tobin - Chaos Theory

I agree. I liked some parts of those albums, but the second singer (he's the guitarist right?) is a terrible singer.
However, Hypnotise gets bonus points for the great lyrics on "Vicinity Of Obscenity". "Banana banana banana terracotta banana terracotta terracotta pie!"
My albums of this year would be:
Foo Fighters - In Your Honour
Queens Of The Stone Age - Lullabies To Paralyse
The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute
The Subways - Young For Eternity
Nine Black Alps - Everything Is
Millionaire - Paradisiac
Robert Plant & The Strange Sensations - Mighty Rearranger
Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth
Death From Above 1979 - You're A Woman I'm A Machine (not sure if that one's 2005 though, might've been 2004)
Cream - Live At The Royal Albert Hall
Queen & Paul Rodgers - Return Of The Champions
That's all I can think of.
How about albums you're looking forward to in 2006? I'd say:
The Strokes
The Arctic Monkeys
(I actually already own both of these & they're both great, but they are both 2006 so....)
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Muse
Mondo Generator
Desert Sessions 11/12
Coattail Riders
Be Your Own Pet
Eagles Of Death Metal
er.....there's probably some more. But that's all for now.
And for the record: Al has awesome musical taste.
Best album 2005: The game - The Documentary.. by far..
