Title: Flippy proudly presents: Smilies. And how.
Post by: Flippy_D on Tue 13/07/2004 12:03:50
Right. I was thinking this board could do with some new smilies, and with the vunderbar Personal Study time, I picked up on some I started a long time ago. I may have got a little carried away, but here they are:

A full set of smilies, complete with Ninja and a KKK (for no apparant reason, I just thought I did a good job on retaining the shape through the cloak). I was thinking, sans the KKK member, that they could possibly become the new set of smilies? I can also animate if need be. I'll take requests, too.

For your... consideration.

You have some smilies ther that I have been missing. Not too hard to make them into "Roger" smilies either...

Okay, your ones look like the old AIM ones. Move with the times.

Post by: on Tue 13/07/2004 13:27:14
They do? I don't recognise them being similar... mind you, I had the built-in version of AIM that came with the software. It could be that they were different, or it was way before I used AIM (even now I use it sporadically, and only to contact all of two people who aren't on msn).

Either way... I think they're pretty good. AGS references on the Bluecup/cheer one, the frankenstine one (Guzzo!) and of course the slightly out-of-it smiley with the Fosters beer cans.

Beer beer beer beer beer beer beer.

I made a bunch of smilies for the message boards I designed awhile back:
(http://www.twin-design.com/fafmb/graphics/smilies/smilies_angry.gif) (http://www.twin-design.com/fafmb/graphics/smilies/smilies_cool.gif) (http://www.twin-design.com/fafmb/graphics/smilies/smilies_cry.gif) (http://www.twin-design.com/fafmb/graphics/smilies/smilies_embarrassed.gif) (http://www.twin-design.com/fafmb/graphics/smilies/smilies_grin.gif) (http://www.twin-design.com/fafmb/graphics/smilies/smilies_question.gif) (http://www.twin-design.com/fafmb/graphics/smilies/smilies_sad.gif) (http://www.twin-design.com/fafmb/graphics/smilies/smilies_shocked.gif) (http://www.twin-design.com/fafmb/graphics/smilies/smilies_smile.gif) (http://www.twin-design.com/fafmb/graphics/smilies/smilies_tongue.gif) (http://www.twin-design.com/fafmb/graphics/smilies/smilies_wide.gif) (http://www.twin-design.com/fafmb/graphics/smilies/smilies_wink.gif)

Maybe we should make a smilies vault or something ...

Flippy, I like your variey of Smilies.. and it's funny stuff.

However, I think Darth's Smilies, with the "blue cup" type of look, probably fits in with the AGS theme of the forums more.

You've both done great work though. *Salutes to yas both*

Darth! Stop surpassing me in my own topic!

*sulkily points out that he has more*

I await CJ's judgement ruling bribing response.

Flippy - I think your smilies have better emotions than mine.

You should try making them in a shade of blue, rather than the traditional yellow.

You forgot a very important smiley: ._.

Of course! I shall do it forthwith.

Darth: Thanks :)  Although... blue might look a bit weird. I'll try it out.

My suggestion is shading.
Poo-poo it if you must.

I did think of that, but it didn't seem to work very well.

Btw: To reiterate, that blue really doesn't work. Sorry.

What's wrong with generic yellow faces?  To be honest, I didn't realize that the smileys we had were Roger until someone mentioned it.  I thought they were supposed to be pirates wearing bandanas or something.

I do like Mr. Mandarb's boxy smileys, though.

Heh.... no prob, Flippy.  Took me like 30 secs to make them blue!  I just wondered what it would look like.

I really don't care; I don't like emoticons really.

Somebody could fix missing rogers at our smilies list though.

I miss the Wambus smilies. Otherwise I hate them. They seem to dumb down posts.

I don't like to use smilies, but Flippy's designs are fun. The Klansman could double for a ghost.

Are AGS smilies Roger? I thought they just had a tan for some reason.

We could have them ALL Larry Vales smilies...

Original rogers are better...
but I like yours too.

Still, nothing can be compared to those:

soo cute.

I don't really want to add any extra smileys, because people overuse the ones we have enough as it is.

However, replacing the current ones with new designs is always a possibility. I agree with custard that we need something a bit more specialized than the generic yellow faces, but your designs are cool Flippy, so maybe we can have some Rogerised versions like the ones proposed by YOke :)

Larry Vales smiley rules all (http://www.esseb.com/images/lvsmiley.gif), and the wambus. Other than that they all suck.

Well, will 'Rogerised' versions do? If we're all okay with that I can make some.

I'm probably going to offend someone by saying this, but I absolutely detest the Roger smilies, to the extent that if I need one I'll rather insert a generic one from somewhere else as an image.

The brown, greenish-brown and red is just so ... bleh! And the neck makes them look like keyholes. Also, the fact that half the smilies are generic ones and look much better (shaded, anti-aliased) just reinforces how bad the Roger ones are.

Flippy D's would be a definite improvement.

If the smilies absolutely have to be AGS-themed, why not have blue cup smilies?

That was sort of my figuring too. I never knew that the roger ones were *quite* that well liked. However, t'ain't my choice, it's CJ's (or failing that, the board public).

If it matters, I vote we disable smilies all together. Failing that I'm in favor of replacing the ones Gilbert made with something with a little more contrast. Dark brown, dark red and black doesn't fit together well.

Hey! What about a smilie for o_O or O_o? I use them sometimes, and they're great for expressing feelings of general confusion and thinking someone is just plain weird.

Eh? Eh?

But who's gonna do it? :P`

Anyway, are those Flippy_D smiley's going to be added to the board? If they will be made "rogery" enough, smth.
