Title: Football nuts
Post by: Slasher on Sat 16/03/2013 19:06:01
Hi

For all you football nuts out there I wish to ask:

If you could pick a player to take a penalty, who would you choose?

You can choose from any era.

I ask because its in my game and I need to show different players.

Adventure games are for people who don't like sport.

Also, by football what are you talking about?
The real football? Or something called Rugby retardly renamed?

So JUST to be clear, we're talking about football and NOT hand egg?

Chris Waddle, Gareth Southgate... oh no, wait...!  8-0

Well, probably Steven Gerard would be one of them.  John Barnes, Robbie Fowler...

Erm... okay, so I'll try to think of some non-LFC players for this...

Luthar Mattaus - Gianfranco Zolo - Decco - Ronald Koeman ...

Ah I don't know.  Too many to choose from, and I don't know about many from before the 80s in terms of their penalty-taking prowess...

The real football? The one that is played after "slightly" more than two drinks, in a swamp, with deflated ball, in six person teams?

Hey Zabnat, I want to play real football with you.  Can you bend the rules a bit and have one team of seven?

This made me laugh out loud (but I still refuse to use that awful acronym).

If we were talking free kicks, I'd choose Bale for Spurs. He's on fire at the moment.
So I guess I wouldn't mind him taking penalties for me either, but I actually feel quite strongly that anyone on a footballer's salary should be trusted to take a penalty.  There is no excuse for missing the target, and it winds me up when they do.

Zidane was a penalty master.

I should also have mentioned the former Paraguay goalkeeper Chilavert! That guy was a set piece monster!

Di Stefano.

Because Bici told me to mention him

Yep... that sums up Pat Nevin.

Still, even he's happy he wasn't this guy... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hP9DJYq54YI

You should definitely include the great Antonín Panenka in your penalty-dream team. Why? As far as I know no other footballer has a style of taking penalty named AFTER HIM.

One of the latest well-known 'Panenkas' was scored by Italian Andrea Pirlo in the shootout of quarterfinal match vs England in last year's Euro Championships. There are English footy fans in this thread so I won't post the link out of my respect for their feelings ;)

I'd also add other Italian, Roberto Baggio, out of my personal preference. Funny thing is, while he was an expert on set pieces and had over 90% penalty convertion ratio he's famous for the penalty he had missed - in the penalty shootout of the final match of 1994 World Cup.

It seems that I managed to forget the best penalty taker of all from my team - John Aldridge (http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/aldo-reacts-to-topping-penalty-list)!  17 scored from 18.
