Someone wants to discuss about what happened in F-1 the race today?

I am quite sure that many people can be blamed, but IMHO never the 3 teams which compeated.

Darth? I know you like F1... :)

My two cents... :)

don't like f1 but saw it.. shambles :P

The race was okay, for 3 teams at least. Although Team Shumacher won, they didn't really deserve it. It wasn't even a race for them. Just a time to pass.
Now, Jordan and Minardis should've won, because they actually raced. Monteiro really did a good job, although I think this will be his last pole position for a while :P

I'm not even sure why I watched the whole race, probably because I wanted to see how this all turns out. I feel kinda sorry for the public, for wasting their money, because there really wasn't anything to see, at least anything they came to see. I liked a few signs in the public, like "$ BACK" and "Black flag this".

I really hope that next race will be better, as it's back in Europe and all. And I would't really miss the USA grand prix next year.

I watched a bit. I'm glad that Ferrari got a win after a while. They really deserve it, I think. Though, Schumaher should've quite last year when he was still THE BEST. I quite enjoyed the race, it was quite good to see some other newer racers competing for the better positions, not only the "usual" ones. Overrall, I liked it.
You got it!

What a complete farce. After F1 getting really boring in the last couple of years with Schumacher winning all the time, they finally seemed to have sorted it out this year with the new rules.

And then this.

Honestly, it's like being back at infant school. You'd think a load of professional racing bods would have been able to figure out a solution to let them all race.

Judging by this race, the sport deserves to be consigned to the dustbin.

Nacho

It is out of discussion that the race has been boring... But I think it's quite unfair to blame it to Ferrari.

I mean that the rules have been settled for all, and if Bridgestone is making tires that do work in Indianapolis but make the cars lose 0,5 seconds per lap in the other circuits, we can't go now and say "ok... let's change the rules for Michelin for the USA race..."

At the end... the blame is for the frenchs... it's allways the same... (no offense... ;) J/K)

I honestly couldn't believe that when I saw it ... what a shame.

Although I must admit I think it was the right call to make.  If I were one of the drivers I wouldn't want to run on tires that were faulty.

Michellin flew in an entirely new set of tires, but they weren't the tires that the drivers qualified with and thus, shouldn't be allowed to race on.

It was wierd to see only 3 teams out there doing "tire-tests" for BridgeStone.  It was disappointing, but I believe they made the right decision.

I might be whistling a different tune had I spent a small fortune on tickets though ...

Interesting...I live in Indy and I'm not a race fan, so I didn't see it, but I did a quick read on IndyStar.comÃ,  Ã,

Yeah does sound like a boring race.

Wow, only 6 cars started?
I'm guessing from other threads that is was still televised...
I also see a pic of a bunch of fans doing a "thumbs down".

I'm thinking there are only 3 big races on this track and 2 are already down.Ã,  I think the brickyard (?) is the 3rd one.Ã,  Wonder if this will hurt that race at all?

But that's not the discussion... :) It was boring, ashaming, sad... But the discussion now is "To who we blame it now?"

In Spain the official version is to blame it to Ferrari. I'd blame it to Michelin, in first place, but if I should point to some team, I would remember some sentences:

"They can't demmand a change of rules now... If their tires are not competitive, we're sorry, but the rules are for all"

or...

"If Kimmi had problems with its tire it's been because he made mistakes using the brake... It's not our fault, the rules are for all..."

That was said by Flavio Briatore, Renault F1 racing team manager, replying to Jean Todt and Ron Dennis (Ferrari and McLaren manager) complaining about the safety of the tires and demmanding changes in the rules.

So, my reply to mr. Flavio: Now, fuck you! :P

The worst of all is that I am quite sure that everybody is happy in Renault because, one race less, same distance to Kimmi. Just that now Schumi is closer... Anybody sees chances of victory for Michael now?

They should've halved the number of laps in the race so that the tyres wouldn't get to the stage of blowing out, and deducted points from all the Michelen teams. At least that way there would've been a race to watch.

Mr Jake

There was a way to save the race, installing something (can't remember what) to slow the cars down on the last bend.  9/10 teams accepted the change.  Ferrari did not, and the tire company wouldn't allow the teams to  race without this... thing installed.

Oliver

Well, Ferrari made a very wise choice. For them.

A chicane... They wanted to install a Chicane.

That's like saying to the Liverpool players that they should have run less in the final of the Champion's league because Shevchenko felt ill...

IMO all can be blamed to Flavio Briatore. I am quite sure that Ron Dennis wanted their guys to race. Double for ferrari (because Michelin couldn't full throttle at the last curve) and a big duel of McLarens with Renault and Jordan. But for Renault, same distance in points between the first and second and one race less... a great play by the french guys. Blaming something to Ferrari is just missinform.

I watched bits of it, a complete joke. Only 6 cars, and all due to a manufacturer problem with the tires, something like this should be dealt with properly.

If anyone went to watch it chances are they didn't live 10 minutes down the road so would have had to book flights, stay in a hotel, eat out and then pay for the exceedingly expensive tickets. Something should have been done and I can see a lot of angry angry letters already in the mail.
When I was a little kid we had a sand box. It was a quicksand box. I was an only child... eventually.

Pumaman

Bear in mind it was the US Grand Prix, so replace "letters" with "litigation"  :D

magintz

Heh, yea. I can imagine this could really affect the organisers, they may lose some of their billion dollar fortunes.
When I was a little kid we had a sand box. It was a quicksand box. I was an only child... eventually.

Kweepa

I don't know what to think. Seems like *everyone* was being unreasonable.
Of course it's big money so I can see why Ferrari didn't want to add the chicane.
But the other teams could just have driven slowly around the corner... at least they would have had a chance at some points.
And the FIA could have insisted on the chicane just to prevent the race falling apart.

The big problem is that there's a conflict of interest between money and entertainment. At the end of the day entertainment should come first or the money will dry up.

So *everyone* should have been willing to compromise, not *no-one*. They are *all* to blame - the FIA, Ferrari, and the teams that pulled out.
