Title: Forum Avatar.
Post by: DanielH on Tue 29/07/2008 08:14:28
General discussion seems the best place to put this.
Is anyone willing to make me a new avatar? Whenever I try to improve my current one, it just looks jagged and awful. And it clashes badly with the forum's colour scheme. I want it to look the same as it does now, but feel free (If you do decide to mess around with it for me) to change it a little. Most importantly, I want it to have transparency, and (if you can) various sizes.

I know it's a lot to ask, but my drawing skills have died because I've been trying to improve it for the last week, to no avail, and It's really bugging me.

Thanks for reading matt. Clearly Daniel's post was saying he doesn't know how to Google "avatars" and not asking for help redesigning his current one.

My artistry skills aren't worth even really trying, so sorry I (also) cannot be of any assistance in this matter. However, do you mind me asking why you feel you need a new avatar? I quite like the simplistic style of your current one. Do what you want, but if you're open to suggestions I'd say just keep what you've got! :=

Like I said, the colours are bad, and it looks 'off', if you know what I mean. Something's wrong with it, but I can't put my finger on it. Anyone who does help, many thanks in advance.

Also, how about this?

I tried to keep the original simple design and make minimal editings. For the jaggyness, it depends on what you are aiming for, you may use anti-alias on the edges and save it as an alpha-channel png for smoother edges. But I take the pixel art path so  you can still see pixels, but I zoomed it up and editted a bit the pixels by hand. Note that relying just with given tools of a graphics software may not give you the best results. For example, using the circle tool may not draw a really round shape, you may need to hand edit it abit to get better results (compare the head with your original avatar).

For the colour part, I admit I have absolutely no sense at all, so the edited one may look bad, but at least it stands out from the background colour of the forum.

Thanks for such quick replies!

Buckethead: Odd you bring up Trilby's , as that's where I got the inspiration.

Gilbot: I'm having trouble eliminating jaggies, antialiasing the edges is... troublesome. I'll give it another go but saving it as png, like you said.

I'm going to use Buckethead's one, after a little editing by me, and see how it goes.

EDIT: Motion blur! YEAH!!!!  (http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/8986/avt2rg0.png). Actually, forget. No motion blur.
