Title: Forum problems?
Post by: Darth Mandarb on Thu 21/10/2004 23:41:35
Lately I've been having extreme troubles with the forums.

It is taking a long time to load, and seems to be down a lot.

It's been happening since the 'big' downtime awhile back.

All other websites are working instantly.  It's just the AGS forums I'm having problems with.  Anybody else?  Am I just going insane?

CJ, is there something wrong with the server?

I've been having the same problem, but my connection has been acting up the last couple of weeks, so i didnt know if it was me or the forums that was beeing stubborn.

I have the same problem, this very slow one, to change category or to give a download. I am using cable. That it can be happening? :o

when im at my school, i do have a worse time. but yeah, ill have the occasional long time. i pm'ed chris, but he may have already gone on the move. my suggestion was to do what happened before, clear out all the private messages us all are storing. either copy them to your harddrive, the ones you care about, and clear it out quite a bit.

I enjoy the slowness, the slowness from the forums turns away the impatient jerks who post 200 times a day so the forums have been slow lately

Gen Gen and critics lounge don't fill up in 12 hours now

hooray for slow!

LoL Eric

Yes, same here. What would clearing pms do except for save a bit of mem on the server. The bandwith they use should only be accessed when you view them...

I was just hoping it'd fix itself, with CJ moving house :P

I've been having similar problems but they seem to have relaxed a bit lately. Not sure what is going on as Hotspot claimed to have experienced no problems at all. maybe it can be put down to the ge old problem. Magic.

the chances of it fixing itself when he moves house is doubtfull, unless the server is run on his computer, at which point as he moves the site itself would be shut down with his computer, (and could be fixed by him shutting Kazaa down.)

the problem itself suggests the domain provider, and this is a busy site. IF the the provider is having technical problems then the sites all their bandwidth lowered, and with a many active users as this site has it would be dramatically slowed and then forced into a kind of "que" which would make the waits longer and longer,

and yes, I have experienced them too.

meh, what i meant was, i was hoping it was a problem that would be fixed without needing his attention, unlike our last downtime when he needed to talk to his hosts

I have experienced these problems too, but also with the main AGS page, not only with the forums.

Maybe the forum is being overloaded. (to many members. We are the victim of our own succes!)
Or the the data is channeled trough a server with a 56k modem.

one thing. this slow speed is starting to keep me away from the forums.

I get the same slowdown on both my work computer (which we have cable) and my home computer (which i have DSL).

Sometimes i sit and wait for some pages to load, and wait and wait, and then i go to another web site and just come back to the forums later on.

It's a little annoying sometimes, but i can live with it.Ã,  As long as the forums are still up and running, i'll be happy.

Are you sure, I have about 56K modem and the the time it took to load this page (the reply page I mean) is 0.15 seconds. Here is a screenshot in case you don't believe me (don't say I cheated because I didn't(I am bad at doing text)):

guys, sorry.. but that means it took the server 0.15 seconds to execute 12 SQL-Queries and create this page.
that means, it's irrelevant what connection you're on, the only things which matter are what database the server uses and what hardware it's running on. (and the server's os, but that shouldn't matter that much)

Hey >:( how many queries do your internet execute? I hope I am not missing something.

As I type this, 18.

I find that most lagging problems can be avoided by using the forum after America goes to bed. Or preferably before it gets up.

Not that Amercains are in anyway responsible, its just a metaphor for saying "Use the forums whilst another, significant web-using country is asleep."

I have 18 queries as I read yours.
