Just to let you all know what's happening:
On 28th October the website went offline for 4 days, because our web host said we were using too much CPU. It was the latest in a row of annoyances from them, after they TWICE moved the website's server, breaking everything, without telling me.
Therefore I have switched web host. The new account is more expensive but should hopefully end all of ipowerweb's trickery.
Anyway, I have moved the forum here, and am still working on moving the rest of the website. Therefore, yes I know the games page on this server is broken -- but the website is still running fine on the old server for the time being.
Anyway, all forums have been re-opened -- let me know if you notice any problems.
Hooray!
Go CJ!
Thankyou!
Yay! ;D Thanks so much CJ. So nice to see the the forums back in good operation. *Salutes*
I hope the new hosting service works out good for you.
As an AGS fan/member, I'm happy to be supportive and help in whatever way I can.
Best wishes! :)
Oh yeah, finally we can generally discuss stuff, and critique things, and have competitions, and show off our games again... The world is at peace again...
Good work CJ...
Woohoo! I can once again waste spend hours and hours on the forums :P. Good luck with all the other moving stuff, glad to see everything else back.
Yay ;D Its back!!!
I started missing the AGS Forums. I didn't have a place where I could look at silly topics that will probably get locked, now I can do that again! Yay!!! :=
Unbelievable. CJ not only gives AGS freely, but switches to MORE EXPENSIVE host because we're too many here. I'd call it... true dedication. Thanks CJ. I'd gladly send you some cash if I could.
Thanks for putting them back! AGS is great. :)
Right, the website is now fully moved across as well.
If you notice any problems with it, please do let me know.
Whoo, yay, hurray and so on.
One thing bugs me. When I try to use the old address www.agsforums.com, I get this site saying
QuoteThe AGS website has moved.
Please note that you should never be linking to these pages directly -- always use http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/ which will always be up to date. Please inform the webmaster of the referring page.
You will shortly be redirected - if that doesn't work, click below:
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/ac.shtml
The "...always use http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/ ..." part confuses me, because I'm using http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk to access the AGS website... should I use adventuregamestudio.co.uk instead?
adventuregamestudio.co.uk is a redirecting domain, which was redirecting to agsforums.com and is now to adventuregamestudio.co.uk
In terms of the URL that you access for the forums and so on, it will be adventuregamestudio.co.uk -- the point I'm trying to make there is that any external websites should always link to the .co.uk URL, rather than linking directly to agsforums/bigbluecup/whatever.
Small problem with the links:
On Hints and Tips and In Production, they go to the old www.agsforums.com address.
Wheeee!!! About time! ;)

Where are those links?
Try refreshing the page just in case, it's possible you have a cached version of the old website.
might I ask who is hosting us now?
CJ, via www.westhost.com (http://www.westhost.com), the deluxe option.
I dont see a point in dragging up old threads, but I've found that the "Check All" option in the search feature doesnt work.
It is just me or is the space where our avatar and that goes a bit wider. I don't remember it being as wide as this. It doesnt bother me at all, I was just wondering.
I think I'm going crazy... the lack of forums did it I think...

Seems fine to me, what browser are you using?

Yeah, that'll be it :P
It's nice to see the forums back. I was starting to get some serious withdrawal symptoms. I know I don't actually post much, but I do check the forums most days. It's always refreshing to know that there are people with a weirder sense of humour than me. ;D
:= i'm happy the forums are back and working again
we missed you guys very much and we are happy that you moving
i love to download games but everytime i tried to download a game
it tells me that the ags has been disabled
please tell me when will this be fixed
thank you.
a happy gamer
I'm glad to see the forums are back. I know you always joke about money, but maybe it's time to set up a paypal donation thread on this board. There are people here who could, (and should), help keep AGS alive.
For Example: Just Adventure ran this long article on AGDI's "NEW" developments. They, pretty much, owe their entire fame to AGS. There are others who feel they owe AGS in the same way. No one would have to pay for the software, but after switching to a more expensive site, while keeping the old site up so people can still get their game on until YOU fix it. Well, it's starting to fell like one Worker Bee making honey for 100,000 Queen Bees.
On the forum status thread someone was saying that making parts of AGS register-only would turn users off, and a voluntary donation system wouldn't result anything, but I think that it would. There are several members who would donate, if it was possible, without any reward (excluding the official AGS box signed by CJ), just to keep AGS alive, so we'd have this great site and all these great games in the future aswell.
But it's up to CJ, what he want's to do about the future of AGS and the community.
I have been asked several times whether I'll add a donations page -- and I do appreciate the thought. One day, if the financial aspects of running the site become a burden, I might well do.
But, as I've said before, the total cost of running this place only comes to about $20/month, and I have a full-time job so it's not a big problem.
To answer someone's suggestion about banner ads ... if things ever get to that point, don't worry, I'll add a donations box rather than curse this place with banner ads and popups.
