hey,
does anyone know any FREE .com domain sites? I am so sick of .tk, /geocities and .friendpages and i don't wanna have 2 pay the 20 bucks a month. plz help with this dilemma.
thx
No such thing as free domains, I'm afraid. If there were, then nobody would pay.
Unless you are seriously good at conning people into buying things for you...
damn. oh well, i gess i cud stick with .tk .
speaking of which, has anyone noticed that DotTK's server breaks down like, once a week? i have. and it sucks!!!
oh well.
Are you just looking for a "domain name" or "domain name with hosting"?
If you're just looking for a "free domain name", there's several somewhat decent free services that will re-direct to a site address of your choosing.
For example, my little "Amazing Adventures!" site: www.adventure.easyurl.org
, it's a fairly decent domain name that I can easily redirect to any address I like.
There's several domain extensions to choose from.
You can find out more information on this particular service over at:
http://www.4u.ru/
Another similar service with different domain name choices, you can find at:
http://www.shorturl.com/
Of course most of these "free domain name / redirect" services may have a rule of having a little button on your main-page that links back to them, and/or they may "pop-up" a little window which mentiones about their services, but hey, for a free domain name, and most people nowadays use pop-up blockers on their browsers anyways, so it's a fairly minor annoyance to put up with.Ã, ;)
didn't u read what i said about hating using DotTK?
Where'd you get the crazy idea that a .com (or .net and .org) domain name costs 20 bucks a month? I'm paying $ 2.50 a month for mine, which is peanuts.

2.50 US, Australia what?
You get free domains, up to 5 IIRC, if you sing for Tripod hosting, I think...

Didn't you read what I said about how to get a free ".com" (or alternative extension) domain name? ::) Oh well, 'tis what I get for trying to be helpful.
Try out http://hosting.roboticalworld.com. It's what I use for my site, and they're awesome. A yearly fee of $10 for a .COM domain, and $1.20 to $6.30 a month for hosting. I couldn't have asked for a better host and service. :)
Here's what I just did:
I bought a domain from http://www.godaddy.com for $8.95USD/year. That's pocket change, man.
Then, sitesled offers superb hosting for $3.00/month and you can actually pay month by month, or in 3 or 6 month chunks. You get:
1000MB of Disk Space
30GB Bandwidth/month
$0.70 per gig over bandwidth limit
1 domain (You have to purchase it from another site, currently. I.E Go-Daddy.)
10 Sub Domains (These can work from you server, once you configure GD)
3 Email Accounts
Some other cool stuff.
For $8/month, you can get even more. Like MySQL and PHP and such. It's awesome. It's better than Robotical, anyways.. As far as bandwidth goes.
I dunno. You're not going to get any free .com's anywhere. Maybe cheaper than $8.95, but they may not be ICANN approved and they could get hijacked.
You could always try http://www.no-ip.org which is a very reliable forwarding service and it's free. It's alot faster than .tk and there are no adds.
