Hi, i have 2 computers (one at each parents house), and on this one I have windows ME.Ã,  I was wondering why ags games run so poorly on my computer, its 1ghz and 312 ram so why can i not play 7 days a sceptic, 5 days a stranger, etc on this computer?Ã,  When i try to run the game it pauses every 3 seconds and continues doing this.Ã,  Is this normal for everyone with windows me or is my computer just weird?

edit    Ive figured out the source of the problem, it is the sound, every time it trys to play a sound ti freezes up, when i turned sound off it worked normal, why would sound freeze it?

broken soundcard drivers? no directx installed?
... it's quite easy being the best.

It's probably hard for you, but see if you can get a hold of Win 2000, or XP. They are alot less buggy than ME.

Mr Jake

Nothing wrong with ME other than its like of DOS and its inabilty to run programs such as Flash MX.

AGS games run fine for me so it is something to do with your computer rather than the OS

the same exact thing happens to me with winxp, but i only noticed it with 7 days a skeptic (sp?) it pauses around 2 seconds after each footstep sound, making it impossible to play.
I have an amd 2800 and 512 ram, and latest directx, i dont think thats the problem. Other ags games run well, so im also clueless.
What soundcard do you have, mr_threepwood? a sound blaster live by chance?

A couple of things to consider trying that may resolve the problem (the following was copied from the AGS BFaq):

QuoteGo into your DirectX settings program (usually "dxdiag.exe", sometimes in a "386" folder). Click on the sounds tab and move the slider to "Full Acceleration". Try it now.

Also, a much quicker way is to open up the Game Setup window in AGS and change the digital sound setting from "Default Direct Sound" to "Default WaveOut Device".

( I also may add to try changing the Default Music device to something different as well if still having problems. You may also consider updating your sound drivers and/or a recent version of DirectX ).
Conan: "To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women!"
Mongol General: "That is good."
