Anyone here how knows about LASSIE?

I came across "What Makes You Tick" a couple of days ago and was quite intrigued... this LASSIE engine seems to have some polish. But it seems to be based on Flash, something I have not the tiniest bit of experience with... And it seems to require additional programs, if I understood their site...

So, question: Does anyone here use LASSIE, or, even better, is anyone here able to tell me if it is worth a try compared to AGS? Do I need commercial software to create game content (apart from a paint prog.), and how's the learning curve and, of course, the payoff?

I mean, it's not that I want to quit AGS- just want to check some other toolkits, too.

Let's just say, 495 people return to AGS every day.

I've never used it myself, but I'm interested to know how your Lassie Quest goes.

Woodz uses LASSIE. He was using it to remake 6DA. We talked about it and he was sad that more people haven't used it to make adventure games. I'm sure he'll pop by and tell you all about it.

And for good reason, I'm sure. As I said, I'm just curious. Testing different tools is like playing different games- it expands knowledge. I mean, I wouldn't be using AGS were it not for the flaws in so many other toolkits... *cough*wintermute*cough*pakdc*cough.
Let's see how the quest continues.

Doesn't the site LASSIE website explain this?

QuoteAll you need is a low-to-intermediate understanding of Flash animation and some standard image editing skills. Beyond that, just download the Lassie Adventure Studio and leave the rest to ambition. Check out the Developers section for tips on getting started.

As far as supporting software goes, you will definitely need a copy of Macromedia Flash. An image editor will be needed to create graphics, and a light-weight sound editor will be very helpful for creating sound effects. Good news: what you will NOT need is a copy of Macromedia Director. All of Lassie's Director assets are pre-compiled so the end developer has no need to understand or have access to the software.

I believe that one of the benefits of LASSIE is that you can create online games that people can play within their browser. And that if you're using vector art, you don't have to convert it to bitmaps before you can use it in your game.
