Hiya.

Some of you know me as someone who spends all his social security moneys on CDs and vinyls, the rest are just ignorant. Now lately, well, I hang around at musical webistes and all that stuff and get a hold of a lot of music, as samples, or asin the case I'm bringing up here, free albums.

I've been doing reviews on some prog CDs for a while, stopped it there because I didn't have any time, but along the while www.prog4you.com sent me some 15 cds, some of which are total spot on recordings, though promo versions of course.

Now for a while I've been thinking of starting up my pityful blog again, just to rate those albums that may not have found a label/publisher yet and are, as we'd all like, free on the internet. I'm not sure if I can be bothered right now, but in the future. Well, I've found some great stuff as well as some less good.

I was wondering, do people here welcome free music with open arms or do you mostly just get the mainstream stuff? I know this has been up in another sense before, but I thought I'd love to bring some out. I first reviewed Chrysalide albums, there's 3 of them, free for download. Not very good unless you like acoustic and simplistic French folk.

I also found out about Rain and Northwind to mention a few.... I've yet to listen to these and well, a lot more. There are a lot, and I myself would be interested in hearing what ever genre there might be. That includes the couple of splendid albums we've got from members around here. I'd probably let them tell about them themselves on this thread. I was considering a list for all of us, and should it so happen, that this thread would get popular, it could then be moved up there. However, we all know, that no-one reads that forum and everyone reads this one. So I'll start with a couple, with a summary to follow and to sum up the genre so it's not a hit and miss. Those three there and

Scott Mosher - Virtuality - the link lists all the album of which the first from 2001 is now free of charge.
QuoteExperimental, progressive music that runs the gamut from heavy progressive metal to tranquil, atmospheric soundscapes.

Hidria Spacefolk - HDRSF-1 - This CD I own already, great ambience for those who like music like Tangerine Dream or Ozric Tentacles!

Tuna Laguna - It's a Fudge - A Norwegian instrumental indie rock band, very interesting. Also some songs from the newer album.

the Pax Cecilia - Blessed Are The Bonds - Pretty nice ambient metal group from the Big Apple.

Sickoakes - Wedding Rings & Bullets In The Same Golden Shrine www.sickoakes.com/ - again instrumental, this time from Sweden, post-rock / indie with a lot of woodwinds and brass + overdriven guitars at times.

Loss of a Child - a UK math rock group with a lot of free stuff (albums) and really nice tunes. (myspace alert).

These are a bit limited genre-wise, but i'm sure you know some more that you might want to or are allowed to share with me, and everyone else who appreciates the idea of free art forms. also, the thread is open to discussion on the bands mentioned and the ways of presentation. Just, bear with me and enjoy with me, right :D If it really seems worth it, I might even pick up that idea of the blogging accident reprise. Thanks! And enjoy...
