Title: Friday the Thirteen
Post by: Bluke4x4 on Fri 13/05/2005 14:11:26
It's Friday the Thirteenth! (At least where I live. I'm not so good with timezones and the International Dateline.) So stay away from ladders, black cats, salt, and mirrors.

So..?

I'm not supersticious(sp), at least not to that extent. And actually, today has felt better than many of the past days... today has been much less... chaotic. :)

Oh, and I belive that you should NOT break the mirrors... And cats are nice, no reason to kill them >:|

What's the deal with salt? Never heard of that one before...

Maybe it does not exist here where I live...

What I know is...

- The day Friday, 13th...
- Don't go underneath a ladder that leans to a wall...
- Don't look at a black cat that crosses your way from the right (I think)...
- Don't break any mirrors...

Is there anything else or is anything different in the region you live... That's interesting, I think, although I really don't believe in it...

I saw a black cat lurking around in the grass outside my school, but so far nothing bad has happened. Maybe because I forgot it was the 13th today. Shit, I'm fucked now, thank you very much...

Just be glad it's not your test...

For some reason, my watch says it's the 15th, which is odd as it definately said the 12th yesterday. Maybe I have a superstitious pocketwatch.

Spilling salt is bad luck, for some reason. To counter that, throw a pinch of it over your left shoulder, not sure why (possibly something to do with blinding the Devil? I think I heard that somewhere).

Black cats ... I've heard that they're bad luck, but also they're good luck. Is it just to do with which side they come from, then? (Left is bad, right is good, would make a kind of sense.) I have 2 black cats (well, mostly black, with some white), so maybe they'll cancel each other out.

Awww... And I hoped this was about the "Friday the 13th" film series 25th anniversary.Ã,  :(

Or maybe even the new movie that's planned:

03.08.05
8:00 AM CST - This morning the Hollywood Reporter has printed the rumor that Quentin Tarantino is "intrigued with the idea" of working with our horror icon. He is reportedly going to be meeting with New Line execs this week. Whether anything actually comes from this is another matter.

Yes, there will be another Friday movie. The report of Quentin Tarantino directing the movie had been labeled balderdash just a few days after that news bullet, Hillbilly. No director has been named yet.

And don't be so shocked guys, there will always be a new Friday the 13th film in the works as long as there are new motion pictures being made.

Only 5 things are certain in this world. Death and taxes, James Bond and Jason. And AGS.

I don't want to jinx it by saying that nothing untoward has happened to me today yet...

Having said that, my grandma did think I was dead, but I guess that's just alzheimer's for you  :)

Mark you had good luck at work today because it's my Birthday and my Birthday is like a minefield of happiness, step on a mine and you will be blown to smithereens but be incredibly happy because you are in heaven in a thousand little pieces, each one bouncing merrily on the cool clouds which ease the burning of the torn flesh.

Never been a terribly superstitious person.  At my last workplace, however, there was a guy who was very superstitious about broken mirrors and spilled salt.  I thought it was amusingly quirky and (whilst working 12-hour graveyard shifts) suffering from boredom and a touch of delirium, I dumped a couple tablespoons of salt in the hood of his sweatshirt.  He cursed violently, and began muttering details of his upcoming retribution.  He also took the salt out of his hood one pinch at a time and threw each pinch over his shoulder.  I think it took him around 15 minutes.  I laughed my ass off the entire time.

Afterwards, I felt bad having done it, not knowing that he really did take it seriously.  I felt worse, later, when he explained that he didn't give a crap about it until he spilled some salt the day before his mom died (having been around when his mom died in a car wreck, I knew he wasn't just screwing with me).  I've since re-evaluated my feelings about superstitions.  I don't have to believe in them, but I'll respect the fact that some people do (similar to my feelings about organized religion).

I'm not superstitious about Friday the 13th's.  Sure, I've got many other phobias, but not this one.
However, saying that, my toilet broke.

You know, it's funny, Friday the 13th was the best day at work I have ever had EVER, in my 2+ years working there.

I was told to deliver a tub to some lady's house way out in the boonies. Bleh. Well, I would have company: a cool guy from At-Home Services (they handle installations and estimates) named Eric. Okay, not bad. We'd be taking a rental truck that belongs to the company. Sweet! It's a nice Ford truck too. :P

We were supposed to leave at 6pm...but the truck wasn't ready, and it was already 7:30pm. The lady calls us (not US, but the place) and complains that we're very late. We both decide that we need to call her back and calm her down and tell her we're almost ready. Eric volunteers to do it right away. Awesome! I don't have to deal with an irate customer!

Now it's 7:45 and the truck is ready. We sgn it out, no problem, and make our way two towns over to Fairhaven. We get lost...but have fun doing so. ;) And when we get to the home..it's a beautiful home. This lady was very rich.

So we load the tub and the tub surround into the upstairs spare room (not really that hard...it was all surprisingly light). When we leave, after complimenting her on her beautful house and wishing her a good evening, she gives us each a $10 tip.

Score! We made it back to work for 9pm, which by that time was already time for me to go home. :D

So yeah, it was a great day at work. Because every other day is utter shit. :P

I had a flight to London with some friends from geography class, and some newspaper lying around in the tube stated that it was probably the hottest day of the year. Can't really blame anything on friday 13th, except for this strange "The Tempest" play in Globe Theater, where you are not allowed to sit on your bagpack, as you are supposed to be standing if you have a yard ticket.

Oh, the night on Stansted airport trying to get some sleep was horrible. But that was already on Saturday morning.
