Hi all, just download AGS and joined the forum today.

i have never tried to make a game before, and have never tried to make any kind of art work before, so i am starting from before the beginning  :P

Anyway a quick question while I am here saying hello, whats the must important thing to learn for making adventure games?

Also is it ok to borrow art work so i can learn how to use AGS, or should i be making my own stright away?

Never played any adventure games before I tried little evil johnny, and I am hooked!!

heh you may be asking well way are you trying to make one now, well the story behind that is, am 30 years old and I am house bound at moment, so needed a hobbie.

well thats me, warts and all... looking forward to playing all your fine games, and hopefully i can also make one

Welcome!

I think everybody would have his own idea about what is most important. I'd say it's designing.

It is ok if you borrow artwork, with the permission of the artist, of course. There are free art packages such as insta-game just for that.

Welcome to the forums!

AGS rules!

Here's the most important thing to remember (in my opinion):  Don't post anything in the 'Games in Production' section until it's really, actually in production because ... oops :)

I'm just messing with you man!

Welcome.

PS
Why are you house bound? (if I may be nosey)

misterx

thanks for the welcomes.

Its nothing bad the reason I am house bound, just recovering from a little op, and the fact I have become a full time house Husband <ack!>

My wife was offered a job, paid more than mine, and the fact I had a small op to get, we decided it would be best for me to stay at home and take care of the kids...ALL 3 of them!

Should be up and about again very soon, but with the ages of my kids need a new full time hobbie and this game making looks really fun, add the fact I always wanted to draw, but never could, looks like it will be a very challageing hobbie :)

thanks again for the kind welcomes

Welcome misterx!

I'm also pretty new to it, but I can draw.. and already understand most of the basics of AGS editor and script, so if you need some art to practice with, just call some things you want in a private message to me, and ill draw it for you, and you can practice with it.

I advice you to start with the beginnerstutorial :

http://www.agsforums.com/acintro.htm

If you worked that through, you must already have a clear vision on the things an adventure game is about, and what you need for making it! GL and lots of fun with AGS!

Thanks for the advice Minimi,
I may just take you up on your kind offer :)

At the moment working on some game ideas while I am downloading some art programs.

I suggest you start your drawings with simple MSPAINT. That's where most of us started, (im drawing still in paint ;) ) and from there, when you are using 8x size, to make pixel by pixel cool arts or something, start using paint shop pro, if you are new to graphics. Starting with photoshop or fireworks, is a bit too high, for a start. You can try it, and do some tutorials, but that will cost you also lot of time.

It's just a matter of what you want look I made this in mspaint

To me it doesn't look any worse, and it only took me couple of minutes. And because I made all my drawings for that particular game in mspaint, it's all fine. So just start small, and you'll grow faster then you'll know, if you enjoy painting, you will soon want more than mspaint, and the start using psp, i mentioned that earlier.

Well, I hope your gonna get the painting-mojo very quick!  :D

PS: I'm drawing also alot in 3D programs, if you like that.. but that is something more advanced!
