Hello Fellows,

I'm looking for futuristic artwork, music or other inspirational stuff. Maybe you can help.

Images, particularly of sci-fi cities, skydomes, very stylized stuff...

Anybody got any artists they would like to share with me?

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

If I understand you kee-rectly, Fritz Lang's Metropolis should be one of the things you need.

Also look into the poetry and plays of Vladimir Maiakovsky.

In fact, look pretty much into the russian futurism movement. Might not be all sci-fi futuristic, but the "stylized" look is pretty much there.
Reach for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.

Kneel. Now.

Never throw chicken at a Leprechaun.

Ghost

Google for Stanislav Lem books and pay attention to some of the covers. Both the stories and the artwork are highly recommendable.

I am just a shallow stereotype, so you should take into consideration that my opinion has no great value to you.

I personally think we will get a neo baroque-faux-Luddite style in the future. We are tired of the jetsons style architecture, but we still will want all our comforts. but the new technologies could allow buildings of a grandeur and height never before seen. imagine a gothic cathedral, reaching into space? a palatal mansion, complete with estate, built atop a enormous skyscraper.

I am sorry to break your fantastic dream, but only thing that I see coming is walls of concrete and box architecture.

They will just probably won't get builted. And use the ressources for hospital/school/transit/socialcares/streets/sewer systems instead.

Yeah, they are planning one in Japan and Hong Kong too.
But speaking of box architecture, I am not talking about Dubai, I am more like talking about USA and Middle-Europe. Dubai is actually one of the few places that has a certain, quite luxurious, style and architecture is nice there.
Well, in 1000 years, New York could be a sky city, but I really really doubt it, because no old buildings and pillars can hold up whole new city, it would just collapse like a card house. And besides weight problems with tall buildings, there are all kinds of storms and turbolences up there.
I am just a shallow stereotype, so you should take into consideration that my opinion has no great value to you.

Ohhh, how nice!

:P

One quick question... If a Company needs a Building to go on with their business developements, and has been fighting for decades to has the money to build that building they need, why should they spend the money in something (Hospital/school/transit, blah, blah) They don' t need? Buildings are a thing, generally build by private corporations, and social infraestructures are other, don' t mess things.
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

One quick answer :
QuoteIf a Company needs a Building to go on with their business developements, and has been fighting for decades to has the money to build that building they need, why should they spend the money in something (...) They don' t need?
Right ! : They won't builted cathedral.

QuoteBuildings are a thing, generally build by private corporations (...) ,
Half-Right! : But not middle-age Cathedrals.

Quote(...) and social infraestructures are other (...)
Half-Right! But not middle-age Cathedrals, who have a strange status in a time where state and church were not separate.

Quote, don' t mess things.
I don't. - My point is that the amounts of knowledges needed for modern tech (and mostly on architecture) rellied on the apparitions of modern infrastructures such schools-transit and others. I was not trying to make an opposition between Social infrastructure vs private economy who by the way was very interelated until the second half of the 20th century. (just thinks at the billions made by railroads-tycoons(transit) or the steel industries (sewers sys) or the cold war in general (research/buildings bases etc.).

Anyway... I was just trying to relate that it seems that the number of university builted in a given society are in direct opposite with the number of cathedrals builted... And I don't believe it's a luck. EDIT : eg : if you don't have access to medical care? - Cuz they don't existed properly? - You build cathedral to pray.

Have a nice day anyway.

I can't believe this even needs to be discussed. Can't you put your energy into discussing more important things?

Try the following albums:

BLADE RUNNER, ALBEDO 0.39, SPIRAL by Vangelis
OXYGENE, EQUINOXE by Jean Michel Jarre (I played Innocent Until Caught with Equinoxe in the background, it's great!)
IMMORTAL? by Arena (notice the question mark)
MOONMADNESS by Camel
AURA by Asia
A MOMENTARY LAPSE OF REASON, THE DIVISION BELL by Pink Floyd (many people hate those albums, but don't listen to them)
PAWN HEARTS by Van Der Graaf Generator (this one is WEIRD!)
FUTURE DAYS by Can
anything by Tangerine Dream
RELAYER, FRAGILE by Yes
THE MAN-MACHINE by Kraftwerk
etc.
None shall pass!

I have that one, and it's quite good, in my opinion.
